ok. I disagree, but thanks for your clarity and honest answer. as for china vs. iraq - neither am I an expert by any stretch, and base my post on only media-reported information. from that, I can only conclude that they are both at least repressive, with the severity and scope of their abuses fluctuating depending on the agenda of the media outlet conveying the story. I only used china as an extreme example, there may be more suitable countries for comparison.
I invite you to read my post a few pages back, if you haven't done so. Too much China bashing here in the U. S. The truth of the matter is that China is undergoing a peaceful transformation to a modern capitalist state. It takes time to change. You are talking about 1.2+ billion people.
I heard a saying last night on CNN that said, being on the Left means that you never have to say you are sorry. Seems to be so very true. But than again it is good to have some worst case scenarios brought up so we do not under estimate our opponents.
I have to admit that the War has gone better than I expected. Although it is far from over as far as what casualties lie ahead so far it has been viewed as a huge success even by anti-war media and anti-american media as well. Watching the faces of some of the Iraqi people is priceless to say the least.....My concerns were over soldier casualty and the cost of War and retructuring a nation....After reading an article in Time Magzine which stated that the cost of WWII was $2.3 trillion dollars or 20k roughly per us citizen at the time, makes $80 billion seem like a drop in the bucket and the casualty has been small ( I know it is huge if the casualty affected your life, so I apologize ahead of time if it has in fact affected you in any way )......peace P.S. Im not on the left nor am I to the right... I am dead smack where I need to be, front and center....so keep ur political bullshit to yourselves....
I generally agree with this, as I said above, aside from the label of "pathetic." I don't know if china is going capitalist or not. all you offer is your own opinion, which, while surely above the pathetic, is still opinion.
good... keep it that way! Then we'll let you live in the USA rather than deporting you to China. etc.! (I did see you tried to edit it b.t.w) Ice
Political views aside. You were still wrong. Being wrong is what it is. If you were a man you would stand front and center and say I WAS WRONG and thats it instead you change the subject.
isn't this what the anti-administration side said? as for comparison - if one swallows the one-dimensional fox-news spin that this operation was to execute liberation and dancing in the street at any cost, then china is next in line. if it is not, a closer look at the differences is necessary, which may lead to difficult questions.
Where was I wrong?? please go back and read the post were u think I was wrong. How did I change the subject?? Looking back doesnt make me wrong ( as you may very well know hindsight is 20/20 ); do you consider being stopped out of a trade as being wrong on that trade, I think not, if not you have a long journey ahead of you as far as trading is concerned. I didnt want our soldiers fighting a lie, period. I am very happy about how things turned out, but it doesnt make my feeling about going to War wrong. So I ask you one more time where was I wrong??? This War may in fact not be a success when we look back at it 50 years from now..It has opened the doors for other Countries to do what we have done, change a regime because we wanted to.......What will we say to China if they decide to change the regime ( Chavez ) in lets say Venezuela ( OIL ) without UN apporval...What can we say...NADA, ZILCHO...peace
Well, no, not exactly. You can just do what the US has always done. Turn the knob on the spin machine on HIGH, dazzle the crowd with some fancy footwork, and wallah, you've successfully disguised the fact that there is one set of rules for the US, and another set for everybody else.
