Ok I posted my preference here: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=100089 but if you have an old PC, my advice is AVAST 7 (Excellent!) and Spyware Terminator (both freeware) Avast 7 provide a firewall, so you can avoid to install other firewall, but I recommend to install Spyware Terminator ( for a real time protection)
AVG , stay away from norton and mcafee, those two programs have been a nightmare for me with esignal and other trading tools.
AVG is a malware. Stay away in any case. After one of the updates it made my computer unbootable. Unbelievable that such crap can be sold.
been using AVG (free edition) now since the original post.. 1 problem I have is it says no firewall with this version but there is a firewall and I dont know how to disable it. I use a trading platform which can not be accesses because of this firewall. Does anyone know how to disable or overcome this problem with the AVG free version? thx

My paid version of Anti-Malware 7.5 does not have a firewall so I am not able to look and see if I can disable it. I think if you can disable it, you would open the AVG Control Center, select the firewall, open the firewall properties and see if you can disable it.
