It was nominated for 8 Oscars. Eight! And won 3 including best director and best screen play. I believe it came a year after the Passion. If you don't think politics plays a large role in the Oscars, you are very naive. It has nothing to do with "how good" a movie is.
I DID see it and it was one of the most over rated movies of all time. I'm a huge film buff and I have no qualms about giving praise to movies that deserve it. And that film did not deserve the praise. But hey, they broke the homo barrier and that is progressive. So give them a bunch of Oscars.
I know politics is involved but there are some pretty good movies that win sometimes too. And if wasn't for the Jesus politics Gibson wouldn't of made 200 million either. So it works both ways for ol Mel anyway.
