I don't recall anyone saying "the majority of our SnP compies were getting their butts handed to them." Quite the contrary. The American worker has been getting their butts handed to them. The intention was to benefit the very companies you are speaking of, but with no consumer in the US, where does that leave the companies? Are $0.58/ day workers going to start buying Cadillacs made in TX? Look at your toy company example above. 95% of the revenue is GONE from this country. Only a measely 5% of revenue comes here, and that's IF AND ONLY IF they bring 100% of profit here and don't reinvest in FOREIGN COUNTRIES. If the toys were made here 100% of that money would be here in the USA. No workers in America = no money in America = bankruptcy or worse for America. If we keep shipping our dollars offshore to the communists and terrorists we are doomed; plain and simple. The idiots inside the beltway are 100% to blame for all of it.
Yes, look at Hasbro: sales are weakened domestically. But NOT because of foreign competition or outsourcing or any similar thing. Quit looking to blame some guy with different skin color - of course I don't really know your skin color but am just making a point - to blame your problems on. Your problems are Greenspan and a completely incompetent Republican congress (and I'm conservative generally btw)! It has nothing to do with China manufacturing anything. Everything was GREAT in this country and the markets until the subprime crisis hit and you can thank the Fed and all the deficits our there for that one - NOT the Asains. It hurts when you have to point the finger at yourself, but that's what's going on here...
When trade is fair, you make your stuff and we'll make our stuff, then we trade on a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. The way it is today all the jobs leave the USA and all the money leaves the USA. Their shit comes here but nothing leaves our shores for there. I have nothing against China manufacturing. I do have something with American companies and the federal government using taxpayer monies to move manufacturing operations overseas to run Americans out of work and run this country into the ground all for the perceived benefit of American companies. And will everyone PUH-LEEZE STOP MEASURING THE ECONOMY OF THE USA WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF STOCK MARKETS. I don't care if the dow is 80,000 or 800; if American jobs are leaving this country, inflation is going nuts and quality of life degrades while we dig this deep hole we have been digging for the past 20 years, it's bad for America. The outcome can only be bad. Notice in economic reports they say "Wage pressure is down and that's good." My response to that is FUCK YOU ASSHOLE ECONOMIST WHO THINKS THAT SINCE THE AMERICAN WORKER HAS LESS PURCHASING POWER ITS' GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY. Even with no subprime issues, we have been setting up for doom with these trade policies. Subprime is only a diversion of reality. Yes it's a big problem, but Detroit was fucked long before subprime reared its ugly head. And many more American cities, towns and states as well. Eventually it effects the whole country. Problem is idiots inside the beltway don't give a rats ass about any one person; they only care about big business and campaign contributions. No different then healthcare where 45% of the cash spent goes to the insurance companies who bribe our politicians while we spend more and die sooner then other countries.
The proof is in the pudding. The USA is DYING!!! http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aGS5.LTaQkk0&refer=home Watch this value decline over time. There is no stopping it short of changing trade policies.
All this proves is that we're in a recession or near recession. Our GDP slows, credit slows to a trickle, foreign capital as well. In the meantime, other economies in the G8 have not had the same slowing, esp Canada, Russia, etc. Why are we in a recession with tight credit? Greenspan not globalization...
I have read no evidence of this. If all the good jobs are leaving our shores, why isn't there decent evidence for it? There's several hundred Economics' graduate students who would love to write a paper on that one but they don't because there is nothing to back that up. What there is evidence of is that we're in a recession caused by a decade of over inflating from our Fed and this is now causing problems throughout the country. There's a reason that all our jobs aren't going overseas: it's generally not that desireable to move all your operations overseas. There's pros and cons just like everything else. The outsourcing issue has been grossly overstated and most companies do a little oursourcing where it makes sense but have no intention of placing all their business in India or China. Btw, it really doesn't matter even if we were losing jobs overseas: we cannot go back on globalization. The rest of the world is signing free trade agreements, lowering tariffs, breaking up state-run monopolites and welcoming foreign capital. This trend will continues and there is no stopping it.
Detroit screwed itself because of bad management. The good news is that globalization, as I have pointed out, will probably save it's sorry rear...
I think I just realized where we differ. When we speak of "Detroit" you think of publicly traded companies, again, looking at A STOCK MARKET AS AN INDICATOR OF HOW AMERICA IS DOING. That has nothing to do with how America is doing. If GM stock goes to $500/ share and they make all their cars in Chindia, Mexico, etc. then Detroit is still fucked. Here's reality - Detroit is a CITY IN THE UNITED STATES MADE UP OF ONCE HARD WORKING AMERICAN PEOPLE WHO TOOK PRIDE IN THEIR CAREERS HAVING ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY THE BILLS, SEND THE KIDS TO COLLEGE AND HAVE A LITTLE LEFT OVER - THAT'S ALL ANY AMERICAN WANTS. Globalization has taken that quality of life from Americans all across our land for the intended benefit of big business.

Why don't you (out of goodness of your bleeding heart) want the same for Mexicans, Chinesse and just anybody else who is not American but is willing to work???? You are selfish son-of-bitch.LOL.
Cesko: You think it's fine for a government to harm it's own people by putting big business first? That's what's on the table here. If truly fair trade had done this, then so be it. But for a government to do this to its own people is horrible. Do you really put the share price of a stock ahead of the welfare of the people of a country? Any and every country? It's quite clear here who the greedy and selfish one is.
