What I don't get about my doctor is, that a year ago I specifically asked about Lovaza (since I have access to it) but she didn't think it was a good idea and gave me dietary guidelines. And of course statins if I wanted to take something. Then 6 months ago when I told her my fish oil+Niacin combo and the results came back nicely she gave me the prescription for Lovaza. Now here is her moral dilemma: Now she can see that one can have excellent results with the pretty harmless, and rather cheap high quality fish oil so why would she prescribe statins to anyone? You don't get a bigger than 30% drop with statins and they are both dangerous and expensive. If she cares about the patients' health more than pushing drugs, she should prescribe Lovaza first and statins only as a last resort. [rant about statins off] ----------------------------------- About diets and cholesterol. Since most of the cholesterol is made by the liver, the more cholesterol you eat, the less is made. So one can trick blood checks by eating high cholesterol food a few days before the check up. I ate lots of bacon 6 months ago and since I was out of bacon, had a big dinner full of eggs the night before the check up. I don't know how much these diets contributed to the levels, but I wouldn't be surprised if 10-20 points...(lowering the levels)
