A big problem people underestimate is that police are not paid enough in many states and that low salary does not attract the best people for a rather dangerous job. 1. all police officers should have a college degree. Cut out the legacy recruits and wannabe tough guys 2. America needs to recognize gun safety laws actually helps law enforcement officers https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewdepietro/2020/04/23/police-officer-salary-state/amp/ It is not a coincidence that NJ pays police well, has strong gun safety laws and among the lowest incidence rates of gun violence in America. It all goes together.
Idiots are going to be idiots. Not only was the gun not secured, but it was quite obviously loaded and ready to fire -unless someone here believes a 2 year old can load a handgun. This is Darwinism. Same stupid shits don't protect their swimming pool and toddlers drown, or don't protect toddlers from falling down a flight of stairs or have a pitbull that mauls the kid, or...
Why would we isolate the cities from the whole state? What’s the point? Gun laws and police salaries (civil servants) are statewide, at least here It’s more honest to look at the whole. As always, you are free to make your own points and share any data.
Because if your argument that NJ is low because of police officer pay and quality, then this should hold true in the urban environments as well, right? You would see this play out in Newark, or Camden. Unless you're saying the cops there are much lower quality and paid poorly.
That’s up to you then. Like I said I will be glad to see what you got beyond an opinion. It would be interesting if you controlled for gun violence across all regional types ie rural, suburban and urban.
You link to a Forbes article that shows how much police officers make in every state, and offer an opinion that this is the reason gun violence is so low in NJ. So yeah, you're in the opinion business as well. Unless you're holding back on some study that links the two. I'm more of the mind that salaries are related more to a cost of living. Does NJ have less fires because firefighters are paid more in NJ vs. other locales? What about doctor's salaries? Higher in NJ vs., say, Oklahoma should mean less ER visits in NJ, right?
Here you go, adjusted for cost of living… https://www.yourlocalsecurity.com/blog/highest-paying-police-departments-cost-of-living/ Having an attractive salary brings in better qualified officers. It’s the same as any other job, you get what you pay for. FYI, don’t ask me to go digging again. If your curious you really should just go look for yourself.
This doesn't do anything other than just regurgitate what you posted already in the Forbes article. Shows salaries by state. Doesn't make any suggestion at all about the link between this and gun violence. Not. One. Bit. As for doing digging, if you make a claim, then you post a source. That's kinda how this discussion forum thingy works.
You said you were of the mind the salaries were more in line when adjusted for cost of living. I showed NJ police are still among the highest when adjusted. See below…
