Sadly...a few more mass shootings in conservative states with permissive gun laws involving assault weapons can stir up the voters just like the leak of the Supreme Court Justices' opinions about abortion rights... It could very well change the expectation about the mid-term elections. Just as sad, another scary statistic...nearby GOP states typically react to a mass shooting by loosening gun control laws up by 120%...a stats noted by the Journal of Public Economics. The business of selling guns to serve the appetite of Americans is just too powerful. People want their guns...its something that can never be fixed and its too late. wrbtrader
Ted Cruz suggests.... Child murderer enabler Ted Cruz blames doors for gun massacre &suggests changing architecture of school buildings to make it more difficult for shooters to navigate
Trying to digest all of the reports now coming out, it does seem this turned into a monumental cluster fuck and decisions that needed to be made were not made in a timely fashion. All that manpower on scene and no way to crash through that door? Best question I've heard asked, how long does it take to get through a door with a no knock warrant? This was not a hostage situation. That was clear from the jump. At that point it's damage control. Get in as fast as you can, anyway you can, and try to limit the carnage. I'm sure it was volatile and chaotic, but damn, just hanging out for 40+ minutes waiting for someone to man the fuck up and go in. Jesus.
The root cause of gun violence is substance abuse related crimes. I recall a judge remarking that if there where no substance related crimes, they could close his court room. As far as school shootings are concerned, the odds are high the kid came from a broken home where substance abuse was often seen with the kid effectively being raised by the TV or often the least common denominators on social media. Schools have been on the front line of mass shootings involving children, by children. It seems to me that as an educational institution, a school can have an impact on reducing such incidents. Tools available include specific curricula involving the issues of substance abuse, mental health, broken families, and school shootings. In addition, school faculty should be better trained at identifying and taking appropriate action involving at-risk children. While I support children being trained in the use of firearms at an early age by a responsible adult, such as a parent, we need to review the chain of events that a dangerous child comes into possession of a firearm without effectively annulling the Second Amendment. I believe implementing the above ideas as well as addressing excessive violence in the media will reduce, but not eliminate school shootings. In the end, if someone wants to kill people, they will find a way whether it involves guns, explosives, poison, a vehicle, or arson. Maintaining gun ownership rights for responsible adults and even certain children can help reduce risks of mass casualty events, whatever the cause.
