The purpose is so that you can say "I feared for my life," and to avoid shooting him in the back. Back shots aren't a good look.

Similar to the ole' jump in front of the fleeing vehicle,
    fear for you life,
    shoot the driver dead,
then jump out of the way of the fleeing vehicle, which is still moving.

How much time do suppose elapsed between frames?
I've seen estimates of .8 seconds.

The kid chose to get rid of the gun too late and it cost him his life.

He should have just stop...with his back still turned and then waited for the command to raise his hands and then slowly raised them with his back still turned so the Policeman will see he's no threat.

Police would have then had more than .8 secs to assess the situation and saw that his hand no longer has a weapon.

Police next command would have been either to turn around, put your hands lock behind your neck or lie face down on the ground.

Cops would have then frisk him to look for the weapon they saw or check the nearby surroundings for a weapon that had been tossed.
    • Kid arrested and mom would have gotten a call that her son is in juvenille detention for firing a weapon in the neighborhood.

Why not take it further? He should then have handcuffed himself when cop gave him the handcuffs and gently got into the patrol car when commanded.

Tough to say...we're all looking at this like "hindsight quarterbacking" to figure out what the Police should or could have done instead of shooting.

    In the old days
, Police would chase you and then command you to stop. You would stop and they just ask you what is your name, where do you live and they'll take you to your Parents home to talk to your parents...they'll give you a lecture while driving you home.
    • Those days are long gone and the parents share some responsibility along with the Police Officer because that young teenager should not be out on the streets @ 2:30am in the morning.
I'm sure its not the first time that teenager sneaked out of the house in the middle of the night but this is the one time it cost him his life. All teenagers in Chicago know that hanging out in the streets at that time in the middle of the night...

I was being facetious and trying to tell you your hindsight quarterbacking is detached from the reality of policing and how arrests typically go down. People will be argumentative, non-compliant assholes yet don't deserve to be shot for it. This kid is the perfect example of the "perp" basically doing everything right and still getting shot.

I think that teenager was only running because he didn't want to get caught doing shit in the middle of the night and feared that his mom would need to come to the police station to get him...

He was running because he feared his mom will kick his ass for being outside at that time of the night but he didn't know what really would happen a few seconds later. :(

That and the fact he ran into a trigger happy cop who doesn't value human life as much as he should. An adult in a well paid position who should know better then a 13 year old. Throw some of these cops in jail for a while they may think twice about shooting people so easily. But thanks for all the excuses for the cop. Maybe we should to rehabilitate the 13 year old. Oh wait, he's dead.

  9. This was a 100% good shooting. That is all people need to know about it.

IF you don't think it was, then you are biased against the Police. (BLM type of person).

His mother had reported him missing when he was running the streets for several days straight. He came home and went back out the next day, his last.
