MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A student was shot in a cafeteria Monday during a high school gym class, and the suspected shooter was in custody, police said.

The injured student, a male in the senior class, had at least two gunshot wounds and was believed to be in critical condition, police spokeswoman Monique Martin said.

The school was placed on lockdown. Parents were notified of the incident by the district's automated phone alert system, school district spokeswoman Rita Cooper said in a statement.

No information was released about the suspect.

It is the second shooting reported in a Memphis high school this month. On Feb. 4, a 16-year-old student was shot in the leg in side a classroom during an argument with another student over music. The student suffered non-critical injuries and the suspected shooter was charged.
