Why limit it to the so called assault rifle? NO weapon should be in the hands of a lunatic. How about we start with doing something about that? Ordinary citizens are of no threat, it's the lunatics and they're pretty fucking easy to spot. Maybe if the Feds started doing there god damn jobs instead of harassing angry parents at a schoolboard we might be a wee bit safer.
I disrespected your post because it was stupid. Don't take it personally. Write better posts next time. I have given some of your posts "likes" in the past. The last few were not among them. You talk about "narratives" but fail to see your own ongoing, unrelenting one. Ironic, eh?
Because I want the politics out of it, that's why. It shouldn't matter at all, but they're quick to use the AR-15 term. It's politics and it's bullshit. Just name the weapon for what it is, whatever it is.
You were complaining because it was called AR-15-style, citing political motives. I said it was to give context to non-gun-types. If the brand and model had been mentioned, I and probably most normal people would not have known or recognized it. But you say "AR-15" and everyone knows what you're talking about. It is informative. It's shorthand. The politics is not specifically about AR-15s. It's about assault weapons in general, which includes, but is not limited to, AR-15s.
I have a vision of you in Vietnam giving up your position with repeated loud complaints that none of enemy are actually called "Charlie" and it all being just political.
The people in Congress literally cannot define the term "assault rifle" because anyone who knows realizes there is no such thing. During the M-14 era the military realized that a lightweight carbine (short rifle) with lightweight ammo had tremendous utility on the battlefield. Anyone who has schlepped NATO 7.62x51mm ammo can tell you it is a real bitch. The only people who protested significantly were the Marines probably because they understood the power of .308 to keep heads down and were willing to carry the heavy weapon and heavy ammo because of it (and they are freaking crazy). The M-14 could shoot through cinderblock like it was butter meaning you could simply shoot through the corners of buildings in city battles like Huế City. I was not there but 500 miles away with hot meals and showers and a bed. I was a wrench on Phantoms. So... we got the M-16. For whatever reason I shot the M-16 well and am decorated for expert marksmanship with it. That and a Good Conduct medal are my only decos. Probably anyone could shoot as well as I did because it shoots with an extremely flat trajectory. I could teach a 10 year old to shoot expertly with it. Even so... I hated the M-16. Literally my last choice of weapon even now. Total crap... trust me. One speck of dust and it will stovepipe and get you dead. The M-14 could be dragged behind a truck down a gravel road and still whip some ass. So now the M-16 or AR-15 civilian semi-automatic variant is called an "assault weapon" and the M-14 or M1A civilian semi-automatic variant is called a "main battle gun". The AR is going to be banned or limited while the actually deadly M-14 is not banned or limited because it is a "long rifle". Whatever. I don't care. Ban the AR. Its just a junk gun anyway... the choice of every freak in the country who wants to kill innocent people because they want some twisted version of fame introduced culturally. The cops knew about this kid. He threatened his whole family. Illinois law provides for several mechanisms to prevent such a person from buying any gun but none were implemented. Why?
