Another Christian whack job

  1. What? No, not sure what I said, but God is continuing to bring Israel back, and He will even until the beginning of His rule on earth. It's not finished, but it is happening, and has happened (they have come back to the land AND they will continue to come back.)

Pope apologizes to indigenous people of Canada

Leaders of Canada's indigenous people speak after meeting with the Pope this week.
Rome (CNN)Pope Francis has apologized for the Catholic Church's role in the abuse of Canada's indigenous people, particularly in residential schools.

Speaking to Canadian indigenous leaders Friday in the Vatican, the Pope said that he feels "sorrow and shame for the role that a number of Catholics, particularly those with educational responsibilities, have had in all these things that wounded you, in the abuses you suffered and in the lack of respect shown for your identity, your culture and even your spiritual values."

Pope Francis speaks Wednesday at the Vatican.

"All these things are contrary to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For the deplorable conduct of those members of the Catholic Church, I ask for God's forgiveness and I want to say to you with all my heart: I am very sorry," the Pope continued. "And I join my brothers, the Canadian bishops, in asking your pardon."

Pope Francis also told the representatives of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit delegations that he will visit Canada.

"I will be happy to benefit again from meeting you when I visit your native lands, where your families live. I won't come in the winter! So, I will close by saying, 'Until we meet again' in Canada, where I will be able better to express to you my closeness," he said.

Indigenous leaders have long called for a papal apology for the harm inflicted for decades on Indigenous children. Last year, hundreds of unmarked graves were discovered on the grounds of former residential schools in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

Children's shoes and stuffed animals sit on the steps as a tribute to the missing children of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School in Brantford, Canada, last November. Crews were searching for more unmarked graves of students near Toronto.

Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission has reported that more than 4,000 Indigenous children died either from neglect or abuse in residential schools, many of which were run by the Catholic Church.
Last year, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops apologized for its role in the residential school system and expressed "profound remorse," but Indigenous leaders have long called for an apology from the Pope.
On Monday, the pope met with Indigenous leaders and survivors of residential schools. At the Vatican, representatives for the Métis and Inuit, some of the largest Indigenous groups in Canada, urged Pope Francis to travel to their country to apologize.

What if they do one thing that is in line with one part of the Bible’s teachings but contradicts another part of the Bible’s teachings….

  5. There are Christians in name only and then there are Christians who are born again. The Christians in name only may look very much like real Christians, but they aren't no matter how much they try to be.

There are Christians who have been born again. Some of them may be whacky but in the long run, the most important thing is that they were born into God's family. If a born again Christian is out of line with the Bible, then we are un-Christian-like in that thing, but the goal of a Christian should be to try to live and think the way God wants us to.

A born again Christian is born again based on being placed into Christ's death and resurrection, through trust in Him. Biblical Christianity is not based on what we do in order to get to heaven, it's based on what Christ did for us. So if one thing is out of line, or a bunch of things are out of line, if the person is born again, they will still be saved from Judgment because salvation is not dependent on us. It's dependent on Jesus being our Substitute. That is Biblical Christianity. There are branches of Christianity that teach differently, but those teachings come from outside of the Bible, and I do not agree with that.

how do you reconcile all the stuff in the Bible that contradicts the other stuff. Like thou shall not kill but then virtuous guys kill people.

  7. There are no contradictions that invalidate the Bible. There are a few places that may seem like contradictions, but there really aren't that many that aren't easily explained and the more difficult ones can be explained (with difficulty :)).

Christians should not kill. Christians should not kill in the name of religion or the church or to stomp out heresy. Any "Christian" who kills another because of religious beliefs is actually acting out exactly what Jesus warned his followers to be on the lookout for:

John 16:2, 3 (Jesus speaking): They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.
Self-defense, military service and capital punishment are permitted in the Bible.

Can you think of another supposed contradiction in the Bible?

It's been a long wait for an apology, especially after so many years of denial or sweeping it under the rug.

It happened not just in Canada but in the United States too in their Native American schools. The difference is that Indigenous Canadians are able to push this to the forefront is because they still own the land or live near the land where the atrocities occurred.

In contrast, most of the land where such occurred to the Indigenous Americans is still owned by the U.S. military and/or government agencies (e.g. Pennsylvania) that the Catholic church partner with the U.S. military.

In addition, in the United States, Indigenous American children separated from their parents such as in North Dakota, South Dakota, Kentucky were sent to Native American schools in other states (e.g. Pennsylvania) whereas in Canada the Indigenous children tended to remain within the same province...

Latter made it much easier to document the problem by the elders and ancestors. In the United States...many Indigenous children were literally never seen again after being taken away from their parents mainly because the parents were given false info about where they children were sent...false info by the Catholic church and the U.S. military.
