seems to me like lack of economy/food shortage/meds/lackluster COVID response. Might as well be protesting US embargos.
The people are demanding the Castro appointed president step down and the end of a system that has left them in poverty with no food, no medicine, no vaccines and no hope.
source? And no, some rado on the street doesn't count, and no, US media pushing a narrative doesn't count. Listen, as much as I'd want democracy for the island, this isn't the Arab spring the media is painting it to be. Cuba's only got tourism going for it and COVID did a number on it. If communism's to be abandoned, it'll be from the top, I know not much of the new guy, might be Gorbachevesque.
If you claim that you will not believe the "U.S. media narrative" and then you won't believe video directly from Cuba of what the crowd is chanting -- then there is very little we can do to convince you of the facts & the truth. This is an uprising where thousands of Cubans are demanding the Castro-appointed president be removed from office (as per their chants) and and end of the island's government system. The reality is that the Cuban government has now effectively shut down the Internet and will shortly repress the uprising with brutal force (as they did in the past) -- so this uprising has very little chance of success.
except no one can make out what they're chanting, and yes I'm fluent. edit: Quit getting your news from twitter
I take it you won't like video from CNN, CBS, NBC or many other sources either. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/cubans-take-to-streets-in-rare-anti-government-protests/
I watched al-jazeera, DW, and BBC. They're all pushing that single "libertad" video. Could be anti-lockdown, could be a single or one of few anti-commie protest. The bulk of the protests are austerity/COVID related. Did you know there are anti-gov protests going on in S. Africa right now?
lol, these clowns just can't help themselves View attachment 264604 Images of the resolution reviewed by The American Conservative show that “The Authorization for the Use of Military Forces Against Cuba to Ensure the Delivery of Humanitarian Aid” has three specific goals: “ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Cuba, including but not limited to food, water, and medicine;” “create a safe zone in Cuba for the Cuban people to safely receive humanitarian aid;” and “prevent humanitarian aid from being stolen by the Cuban government or its forces.” Mooney’s office stated, “The Congressman hasn’t introduced any legislation related to Cuba. If he does introduce legislation we’ll be happy to comment at that time. Our office doesn’t comment on hypothetical legislation.” Congressional Republicans have also held separate, virtual, member-level meetings regarding how to respond to the protests in Cuba and have invited representatives of large corporations to them. Emails also reviewed by The American Conservative show an official from Sen. Rick Scott’s office coordinated a meeting on July 19 with members of Congress and representatives with Amazon, Facebook, Google, Verizon, and the wireless communications trade association CTIA. Sources detailed that senators spoke to companies from Silicon Valley to see what was technically feasible as far as getting internet access into Cuba. “If the people of Cuba can see the outpouring of support they have from the United States and the world can see the atrocities happening in that country, the further we’ll be toppling that regime,” said a Senate aide.
