enjoying your journal. I have recently started trading spreads as well, both electronic and pit traded.

Just wondered what you take into consideration when evaluating "correlation plays" rather than, say, seasonal trades?

  2. correlation vs Seasonal

    Hi Rudi,

first of all I really hope it will work out for you with your spread trading!

I am personally using a very simple filtering for my trades. I look thru the seasonal and correlation charts and whenever I find something interesting I put it into my chart software. It does not matter to me if the main idea is seasonal or correlation.

After my first "filtering" is done, I try not to look at the seasonal or correlation charts anymore.

The only information you can get out of a seasonal or correlation chart is: the spread will move up or down together with some dates from when to when. That's pretty much it.

Then I just follow the current spread chart to see what is going on RIGHT NOW (somehow this is the most important part, right).

You see, actually pretty simple :)

    Happy trading,

    Andy Jordan

I took already profit on the S-SM trade on the next day I got in because it moved up nicely and I had to travel. Market moved then down to my entry level and I got out. Probably to early this time but.
