  3. Is there any way you could post these entries and exits close to real time? I just dont see the point of posting results after the fact. I think people could learn a lot by using a simple system with simple rules but I doubt many people are paying any attention because its just another hindsight journal.

  4. I occasionally go over the threads in the Journals section (just as I go over the monthly results of hedge funds at IASG to see how various methods are doing for others), and this is one of the "cleanest" I've found.

Post in realtime? So that other ET members can follow his trades? Unless we were talking about swing trades of at least several hours or days in duration, it'd be a recipe for losses.

Let me say that posting in real-time is quite distracting in short-term trading and not everyone can do that. There have been a couple of good semi-rt journals, where the trader was posting almost in realtime, but didn't last long.

If you want realtime trades, join an IRC room and post there (there are several ones with friendly atmosphere).

Personally, I consider this "recap" style of journal is the most valuable, especially since Andy has described his method. I don't trade like Andy, but if I did, I'd find the recap journal the most helpful.

    Just my 2c.

People are duped into thinking trading is easy because when you look at charts (past action) all the setups and results are obvious. All the indicators work like a charm. When they try to trade "the hard right edge" they discover its a whole different ball game. IMO its the same thing with an after the fact journal. If you cannot see the setup as its forming, of what value is it? He is trading ross hooks etc. I can look at past charts and find hundreds of them but of what value is it? I just dont get it but I may be missing something.

ross trading also works with stocks cause stocks have the same pattern.

concerning september results: you get only nice results in a
'trending market' (in your trading time frame). September was very ugly (one bar up/next down)

  7. Ok. I get it now. Ive gotten a couple of posts and pms mentioning his chat room so the journal is a means of steering people to his chat room so it does have a certain logic behind it and I withdraw my complaint. Sometimes I can be pretty thickheaded.

  8. Dear Traders,

maybe some word for my motivation to write this journal.

I personaly belive the technical aspects in trading are not so important. This is why I use a very simple method without any fancy indicators.

More important for me is to show there is always a up and down in trading. There are good and there a bad times. In August and September it was very hard (for me) to trade.

When we have nice trends in the markets almost everyone is able to trade. But what to do if the markets are getting ugly? This is the time when a trader has to survive. This is the time when he needs disciplin (I belive this is the most important factor in trading).

Trading is much more then only following entry and exit signals. It's about controling yourself.

Unfortunately it's not possible to post the entries/exits in (almost) real time. Even on a live chat it's difficult enough.

    Happy trading,

    Andy
