An observation on the new ET

  1. Oh, Vikana, everybody here isn't nice like you. There is a foul underclass abroad in the land of white trash who talk and think (and trade) like they post. And who see Yankee Wall Street faux gentility as a cover for deeds so dastardly they'd make an incestuous Appalachian uncle blanch. Think of us as Darvas without couth. Think Snopes with an IB account. And a split screen showing E-Signal on one side and porn on the other. When I am unemployed and can trade, I make a little money off of carpetbagger market makers' manipulations. I have a whole set of tools to detect what I shall politely refer to as "screwings". Market manipulations are so egregious that only the nastiest of real-life analogies are appropriate. The miscreant misbehaviors you read about in the WSJ that transpired over many months steal only a tiny fraction of what is stolen from the market-ordering public on a scale of minutes every day.

  2. Forgive me for using offensive words to describe offensive behavior. Meanwhile, the offensive behavior continues. How very "professional."

As an aside, I think you will find my communications to be entirely respectful when dealing with respectable ET members.

The people on this website are 95% hobbyists or at best part time investors. Traders surely they are mostly not. If they were professional, it would have to be because of their other job.

Internet sites are by their nature unprofessional, mostly because there is nothing to lose by having tons of aliases and by being any way you please towards someone. Human beings and their behavior towards one another has been honed by millions of years of evolution assuming face recognition, not handle recognition.

  4. Perhaps. However, my interactions here on ET mirror the way I interact with people in "real life." And I have no aliases. It takes far too much effort to concoct multiple personalities and "handles." And it is not in my nature to do so, anyway.

I felt compelled to respond simply because you quoted vikana, who was apparently referring to me. And I repeat: my offending words were deleted while the offending behavior that I described continues unabated.

I agree with you that you are mostly professional, and you have mostly been annoying no more than any of us have to each other.

One thing people have to remember is that this is an extremely stressful business and this site sometimes reflects that. If you have ever worked in the pits, it is not much different, in fact probably alot more swearing goes on.

  6. That may well be. However, I do not consider my "edited" reference as swearing. Rather, I prefer to characterize it as a fairly accurate description of primemover's place and function in the overall scheme of things.

If you're referring to the offending behavior of primemover, you're wrong. I blocked his IP and banned him on the day it was brought to my attention, which was on 7-4-05.

  8. Hi Thunderdog,

Sorry if it appeared I was referring to you. I was simply posting my general observations on what I consider acceptable behavior. I don't think I've ever edited any of your posts [could be mistaken, obviously]. You were asking for moderator comments, I believe.

Personally, I'm amazed that ET has been able to retain the level of decorum it has. Any level of success naturally atracts a number of cretins that take pride in polluting the pond. A great job of herding cats in my opinion.

That reminds me about the award-winning commercial of cowboys herding cats that was shown a couple of Superbowls ago. Often feels the same way moderating some of the colorful characters here at ET.
