I agree with holding the employers responsible. I think there should be major fines when an illegal is employed. And, it should be enforced!

  2. I didn't quote the whole article. She started it out by saying how the republican establishment, ie the Bush crowd, the McCains, the lobbyists etc, all wanted Romney to back off his immigration position. They are beholden to companies that want a steady supply of illegals, no matter what it does to the country.

One problem however is that democrats have fought tooth and nail against measures to allow employers to check immigration status. You can't deny them the tools to check status, then punish them.

Basically, democrats are in favor of identify theft, which is what working illegally usually involves. Of course, these are the same people who think it is outrageous and racist to require voters to have one piece of valid photo ID.

Coulter's missing the big picture here, possibly she's going liberal/commie. The wealthy, who are the largest beneficiaries of the low-cost labor of illegals (and legals, btw) are the job creators. Give the wealthy the freedom to utilize this type of labor and they will create more jobs, which benefit the legals and the natives as well, This is basic trickle-down theory. Take this away from the wealthy, over-regulate them, and they're just going to go "Galt" on us, and take their money and job creation magic elsewhere.

  4. Nice try to alter history and reality. She has always made sense and always produced that sense of unreality you are feeling in brainless liberals that are deluded into thinking they have the intellectual high ground...

Actually, Coulter's product has been changing to satisfy new markets. She and her agents have publicly admitted that her older line of far right product has seen falling sales in the past couple of years. Gotta hang on to that market share!

Dems spark alarm with call for national ID card
By Alexander Bolton - 04/30/10 06:00 AM ET

A plan by Senate Democratic leaders to reform the nation’s immigration laws ran into strong opposition from civil liberties defenders before lawmakers even unveiled it Thursday.

Democratic leaders have proposed requiring every worker in the nation to carry a national identification card with biometric information, such as a fingerprint, within the next six years, according to a draft of the measure.

“We call on Republican Senators to review this framework and sit down at the negotiating table in good faith,” Reform Immigration for America said in a statement. “This is a national problem that requires a federal solution and the input of leaders in both parties.”
Durbin said Democratic leaders are trying to recruit other Republican partners.

  9. And what happened to it? Nothing, that's what. They wanted to propose something they knew would go nowhere so idiots could point to it and say the democrats were really serious about cracking down.

It was also unnecessary. They already have an instant check program,EVerify, but there was some problem with it. I really don't have time to look all this stuff up.

Bottom line, I support having a system to allow employers to determine legal status and punish the ones who hire illegals. It will cause a lot of pain and some unfairness, as people who have been here for years and done nothing but work hard will be hurt. Unfortunately, there are costs to violating the law. As Coulter pointed out, our society is reeling under the massive costs imposed on us by illegals, and that cost will only increase in the future if they stay here and raise families, most of whom will probably be on some form of welfare.
