This is a hilarious and informative talk about education and creativity given by Sir Ken Robinson: http://www.ted.com/tedtalks/tedtalksplayer.cfm?key=ken_robinson
quote.. Creativity is as important to education as literacy... very enjoyable to listen.... other quote... if you not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original...
I think it's a combination of dedication and intelligence since it sticks faster. ElectricSavant since you're here, I have a question that's on my mind: When I learn I try to use my common sense and bullshit detector to select what I consider "right". Through it all I'm humble and try to always expand my horizons, but I may ask, isn't that selecting information that you already agree with instead of learning? What is learning.
adhd had not been available yet...oh toooo funny sir Ken Robinson..I thank you...you too have brought pleasure to millions... Bravo Guests...lets discuss ideas in ET...(people and events become dim at dusk, in the light of expansive creativity..let your light shine...) Thank you.
Hmm.. thanks! Right now whenever I think of creativity I think of being a submarine captain. Know your boat and know your enemy.
Oh, I would just print out the chart, give him crayons and ask him: Can you continue that zig-zagging line?
My sense is that the "savant" thought process is very ** linear **... That is... focused in one very narrow direction... Like memorizing a phone book. This is the opposite of "genius"... which involves ** lateral ** thinking... Meaning that an exceptionally talented individual draws information from ** many different sources/disciplines **... And creatively puts it together to develop valuable, new, ORIGINAL information. What "savants" do is nothing more than amusing... And can easily be replicated by computers. In sharp contrast... What "geniuses" do is light years beyond the state of Artificial Intelligence in 2007. Successful traders are exceptional ** lateral thinkers **... Drawing on countless sources of information to make very complex decisions. This is why the talents of "savants" CANNOT be applied to trading... And also why state-of-the-art AI... Cannot even come close to matching the decision making of a pro trader.
