I am still not going to count my justices before they are hatched. But... if this happens... do we even fathom how wrong the never trumpers were? Imagine the country if hillary appointed 3 more lefties? I can't even imagine.. how little the Constitution and our rights would mean?
Spot on. Totally vindicates voting for Trump the first time around for me (something I have, at times, had to remind myself).
I hope everyone here appreciates the fact that the Senate republicans will be working in DC through the weekend so that Justice Barrett's confirmation will be ready for a vote late monday night. You are welcome.
Yo Amy!! Wassup girl? Lookin' good. Big day coming up tomorrow. We know all the lefties are proud of you because they support seeing accomplished women being put in positions of authority as they justly deserve. Big hug for you. Ruthie is looking down with pride. Congratulations, Justice Amy Conan Barrett.
I am still not allowing myself to believe this will happen. I realize the odds at this stage are probably 99 percent... but I can not trust the odds. I have watched Republicans screw over conservative values since about a year after the contract with America. It seems the only major wins we have had since then is with judges... but this seems like to big a win for them to give us. We could actually discount the Bush family trick of installing fake conservatives like Souter and Roberts. (I expect Roberts to pile on with conservatives when he can't swing the new majority... There will then be an even stronger push for the next president to put in a lefty, then he can will swing back. )
I hear ya. The republicans like to have plenty of time to dick around so that they can shoot themselves in the foot and find a nominee who reflects the lowest common denominator. Fortunately/unfortunately for them the timetable does not allow for that. They have to take a candidate who looks good and has been pre-approved and run with it or face an unknown and altered post election mood and landscape. The dynamics are somewhat complicated. There is somewhat of a mood that Trump is going to be defeated so some senators feel that they need to take this as a consolation prize and not give that away too. That's kind of a Debbie Downer reason for them to get it together but I can't deny that it is a factor. In the other direction though, you have Lisa Murkowsky who has announced that she will vote for her confirmation. She obviously is having panic attacks over the possibility that Trump WILL BE elected and she will have to live with that and it will not be pretty. Complicated but fortunately it's going to end one way or the other. Very soon. Trump plays a good game of being pissed at Susan Collins (the one who got him Kavanaugh) but if he is re-elected, and she is re-elected, having another Senator with an R after their name will look like gold. She needs to be left alone to try to survive since her vote is not needed to carry the day for Barrett. I know the high and mighty high-principled things that can be said to that but out in the real world, the pubs need to try to get both Barrett and Collins back to DC. Even a rino with an R contributes to forming a majority in the senate.
There is a dance going on in the background. Collins has been in very bad shape. All the out of state money in the country has arrived to take her down for being the pivotal person leading the charge with Kavanaugh when that process was in trouble. Ironically, Trump came out a couple weeks ago and said she was a loser and not worth the time so he was not going to bother with her. But this is exactly what she has needed from Trump in order to overcome her opponent's charges that she is owned by Trump. She still has a tough row to hoe though. She is the last republican in New England in either the House or the Senate so the times and the atmospherics are against her a bit. Her opponent is an out-of-stater who arrived seven years ago though, and the native Mainers do not like that type of thing. Those who have moved to Maine (a/k/a "Year Round Summer Visitors") are okay with it.
Yep, In Maine you’re either Born there or an “away from here”. The only thing worse than being an “away from here” is being from New Jersey. Mass-holes come in a close second.
