    (j_medved is my brother :))

We also have a Websocket streaming API that allows the user to subscribe to streaming data from and trade through any of the sources.

When you say "custom stuff" - are you talking about custom indicators? Or something that uses the data, alerts etc. and trades based on that?

I guess that makes you THE other authority!! :fistbump:

As you know SC has a built-in C++ language. User-defined code encompassing all of the above can be built into DLL's for use in SC. Built-in spreadsheets also provide certain, more straight-forward but less-robust (vs C++) capability.

My own needs, while not indicators, primarily uses data (OHLCV) variables, with subsequent analysis producing chart annotations, and/or automated trades. I also have a few pieces of less frequently used code that will access multiple charts and/or SC built-in indicators for further analysis.

And here's an order related thing I use daily... Custom code buttons for buy or sell at market or limit, with stop placement based on high (or low) of a bar, rather than the entry price/ #ticks/percentage/or money as the stop offset. Time-based bars btw. And time for adjusting an initial stop is something I generally don't have! I trade futures. Flat eod.

Maybe something here is helpful to you.(?). I've always liked your platform! Any docs for the websocket streaming API?

:) We have the feature of C#-based user-written code. Not C++. The code is dynamically compiled, so can be easily changed and debugged.

The first thing you describe is available - it is called "paintbars" and "scans" - basically user-written C# code that can utilize any of the program supported indicators to produce chart annotations, alerts or scan results on portfolios. MT does not have auto-trading but the alerts can be monitored by an outside program (in any language) through the streaming API, and orders can be placed based on those alerts through that same API.

I don't know if you have time to play with this stuff. If you want access to the API, DM me here, give me your email address and we can continue from there.

We're always happy to entertain ideas that would improve our platform.

  5. I had some problems with RTrader when I made the switch. Slowdowns/ stuttering with the data inflow... but it was a hardware problem. The trading computer was more than enough powerful for Sierra Chart, but for RTrader with the performance settings to the max (DOM updates per second to 100 or max) it was not sufficient to process all the data for the NQ DOM and tick chart, especially around the opening.

Now that I run RTrader on a more powerful computer, I could not be happier. Sierra Chart with CQG feed is pretty good, was my favourite so far. Sierra Chart with Denali, I tried it, but I did not like it, to me it felt worse than Sierra Chart with CQG. TT platform is ok, but does not feel the same like the good old XTrader.
But the setup I run now with Rithmic RTrader Pro beats everything I have used so far. The data for the NQ and ES comes in so fast and smooth, it is just another level.
I loved scalping with SC and CQG, but RTrader with the Rithmic feed is like a scalpers dream come true.

For most traders, SC will still be the better solution. SC is so ultra adaptable, you can customize basically everything. It is such a complete package. The programming is fantastic, it is super lightweight and streamlined.

RTrader Pro is not as complete and versatile as Sierra Chart, but for my needs (ultrafast unfiltered data for a pure and direct feeling on the DOM, and hopefully superstable) it seems to be the best solution I have seen so far. And I like the fact that my trading plaform and data stream come from the same provider.

  6. SC seems to be painting themselves as complainers. Not saying they don’t have legit reasons for their complaints but it affects their image IMO. And image is important in marketing. All the bellyaching does them no good. Otherwise they have a good product.

    themickey and CALLumbus like this.
  7. Hey could you post a chart in Rtrader. Would like to see what it looks like? Also will they clear through GAIN? Also, how much is monthly fee for Rtrader platform and data feed?

This is a simple tick chart I use. They have more fancy stuff like 3D style charts and candlesticks showing volume, but I dont use such gimmicks.

If charts are what matters most to you, I would suggest Sierra Chart. The charts in RTrader are limited, it is nothing special.

But if you need a superfast, reliable datafeed, and you want to have your datafeed and platform from the same provider, then RTrader might be for you.

I dont know if GAIN offers Rithmic, but 90% of all brokers/ FCMs do.

To use RTrader, you have to pay the monthly Rithmic connection fee, which is 25 USD. And then you have to pay RTrader Pro which is 20 USD per month. If you dont need the charts then you can use regular RTrader, which is free.
