Californians for Population Stabilization Thursday, August 2, 2007 Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) sent this note today: *** Help stop passage of Senator Specter's new amnesty-lite bill! Senator Specter (R-PA) is attempting to pass an immigration bill that contains most of the elements of the recent, failed "comprehensive" bill, but instead of immediately offering an automatic path to citizenship to illegal immigrants would "just eliminate their fugitive status." Specter hopes he can escape the charge of "amnesty" that he thinks killed the last bill. Of course, this bill still provides an amnesty. Those who entered our country illegally would incur no penalty and be allowed to stay. Specter said, "whether a person is categorized as a permanent legal resident or some other category, as a matter of nomenclature this can be worked out." The other major change is that Specter's bill would leave intact the family reunification standard that the defunct immigration bill would have replaced with a skills-based system. posted by Dick Hughes
talk about stealth, i could hardly find anything about this proposal. when is he planning on introducing it? isn't congress taking august off starting today?
everything these slimeballs do on immigration is stealth, during the 'pajama party' a few weeks ago, Sen Cornyn tried to stick a massive H-1b increase on the defense appropriations bill
Wonderful . . . NOT!, and from another fine republican (Specter) who faced a strong challenge from another candidate in his party during his last election, but had Bush come out and campaign for him and some how it saved the day for him as Specter was relected.

You personally pay $11,000 every year to illegal aliens. JOBS (per Center for Immigration Studies - September 2006): Between 2000 and 2005, 4.1 million immigrant workers arrived in the U.S., accounting for 86% of the net increase in the total number of employed persons (16 & older), the highest share ever recorded in the U.S. Of the 4.1 million, between 1.4 and 2.7 million are estimated to be illegal aliens. Also, between 2000 and 2005, the number of young (16 to 34) native-born men employed declined by 1.7 million - at the same time, the number of new male immigrant workers increased by 1.9 million. [Do you still believe the gov't employment rate stats?]
95 % of Warrants in LOS ANGELES are for ILLEGAL ALIENS I may agree with your overall assessment, but I really question this number. If the primary crime is being here illegally, then sure, that might make sense. But if this number was supposed to refer to actual crimes being committed, then it doesn't make any sense. ? c
http://www.politico.com/blogs/thecrypt/0807/House_erupts_in_chaos.html Video: http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=3895 House erupts in chaos In a massive flare-up of partisan tensions (video link courtesy Breitbart.tv), Republicans walked out on a House vote late Thursday night to protest what they believed to be Democratic maneuvers to reverse an unfavorable outcome for them. The flap represents a complete breakdown in parliamentary procedure and an unprecedented low for the sometimes bitterly divided chamber. The rancor erupted shortly before 11 p.m. as Rep. Michael R. McNulty (D-N.Y.) gaveled close the vote on a standard procedural measure with the outcome still in doubt. Details remain fuzzy, but numerous Republicans argued afterward that they had secured a 215-213 win on their motion to bar undocumented immigrants from receiving any federal funds apportioned in the agricultural spending bill for employment or rental assistance. Democrats, however, argued the measure was deadlocked at 214-214 and failed, members and aides on both sides of the aisle said afterward. One GOP aide saw McNulty gavel the vote to a close after receiving a signal from his leaders â but before reading the official tally. And votes continued to shift even after he closed the roll call - a strange development in itself. Whatever the final tally, acrimony quickly exploded between lawmakers on either side of the aisle as Democratic leaders tried to plot a solution, while parliamentarians on either side argued over protocol. Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) eventually offered a motion to reconsider, according to floor staff on either side, ostensibly giving members a chance to recast their votes. But the maneuver sparked a chorus of angry protests from the Republicans, yelling âshameâ on Democrats, while they returned fire with angry volleys of their own. When Democrats finally moved to consider the spending bill as the last vote of the night, furious Republicans left the chamber en masse to protest the maneuver. The House eventually recessed at 11:18 p.m. But Republicans quickly discovered that there was no longer any record of the controversial vote and immediately charged Democrats with erasing the bad result. âObviously, the Democrats donât want to stand up against illegal immigration â so much so that theyâre willing to cheat in order to win a vote,â Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) said in an e-mail. âTheyâre desperate â and it shows.â The official House website did not show a record of the vote as of 1 a.m. Friday.
