And your point is? Are you suggesting that Gfx has the ability to control the x-axis in a manner required for price-based charts which is the issue in this thread? Wake us up when you can demonstrate this. (Here is an example of X-axis control suitable for P&F/Renko).

  2. It's pointless if you can't follow. Send a request to AB and they will explain to you.

An interesting discussion in re AB charting pros and cons. I agree with both colion and GeorgeClueney. Sure GFX functions permit total control over the charting space, as GC says. However, as colion says, in many instances this is not a trivial task, requiring more than average progamming ability and the time to devote to such a project. Some in the AB community enjoy this challenge and have the time but many do not.

I suspect that Thomasz (developer) has created the tools that he will need for future development of improved "out of the box" charting capabilities and at the same time satisfy the need for advanced charting for those who have the ability and inclination to develop their own customized charting. In the meantime, I agree with colion that AB's current "out of the box" charting is mediocre for a number of reasons, including some that have been mentined. As a result, those who need more advanced charting (and I'm one) have the option of spending the required time and effort to develop the charts and tools or just use another program(s) for this purpose (even free ones, including broker platforms, that are quite good). I'm sure that Thomasz wants AB to be everything to everybody. This is a fine goal but at this point that is reached for what I perceive (from the Yahoo forum) to be a small percentage of the AB users.

In my case, I use AB where it is inherently strong (e.g., indicator building, scanning, optimization, etc.) and other programs particularly for more advanced charting than offered by AB's "out of the box" options and/or a more user-friendly charting environment.

Not interested in a food fight - just my 2pesos.

  4. I'm still not sure what exactly is meant since for example AB already provides "price based" charts. For example Range Bars are provided by AB which are more modern than - quote- "ancient P&F". Maybe there is not much demand for P&F. For example I don't use it as I don't find it useful for me. So if there is less demand for P&F by other users of AB also (while more modern range bars are already there) but there is more demand for other stuff then of course it is easy to say that P&F is not at the top of the to do list. And charting wise you can do everything in AB that can not be done by other retail software or by not many. So everyone could make his custom P&F or whatever there is himself since the toolbox to do so is already there.
The problem with most other softwares is that you are trapped in a cage and have to use what they offer while in AB you can use your imagination and bring it to life whatever it is. That's one of the reasons I move to this software few years ago.

  5. I like Amibroker.

It's a fine piece of software that I used for trading stocks in the past, but for my day trading it did not prove as useful, so I am using something else for it, but maybe I should take a closer look at it because I see from this thread that I might have discounted it too easily.

Overall, a very competitive product by a very competent developer.

  6. Amibroker is an excellent piece of work.

The only problem most people will have with it is that it's so comprehensive (and so rather complex) that they might opt for something more simplistic.

But if you are willing to invest your time in mastering it, you will benefit handsomely.

I am no expert, but a friend of mine is a little Amibroker wizard, so I know how powerful it can be.

    Hi, George

Please tell me what are the position sizing options you have in AB. Thanks.

  8. You can make any position sizing method you have in mind.

How many data streams are you allowed? My method requires quite a bit of preprocessing before the final combination.

  10. Are you referring to multi-threading and the number of threads in analysis?
Standard Edition 2 threads, Professional Edition 32 threads
    http://www.amibroker.com/guide/versions.html‎

Additional info in their manual about efficient use of multi-threading
    http://www.amibroker.com/guide/h_multithreading.html

Or do you mean multiple streams of data vendors?
Anyway you can open multiple AmiBroker instances (each one connected to a different source) and multiple Analysis windows and multiple charts. And of course if you feel there is a vendor missing (or anything else) then you have the choice to add your own by using the free AmiBroker C/C++ SDK. But there is another commercial .NET SDK for AmiBroker available if you prefer that one.

Otherwise if you have any technical questions then better ask their support as I'm not affiliated with them but am just a user.
