Ameritrade(Datek) Direct

Discussion in 'Retail Brokers' started by zxcv1fu, Nov 28, 2002.

  1. Nothing has changed, and I should dump them, too. It's always my fault, always my computer's fault, reboot the system, empty out the cache, change your settings, yabba-dabba-do... Well, their hocus-pocus doesn't solve anything, but what else can tech support say when this is the extent of their problem solving abilities?

  2. Their arrogance is what got me riled up the most. Their streamer was the single biggest piece of crap ever produced and they always acted like it was a problem with you, the client.

Funny, all my other java apps worked just fine. Goodbye and good riddance.

  3. The biggest favor Ameritrade ever did for me was to raise prices in october. Going from 8 to whatever it is now (it was a big jump) forced me to look elsewhere.

IB has WAY better commissions, and seems to have better fills, IMO.

I can buy 5000 share stocks in Ameritrade & pay 10.99. How much will IB charge?

    $3.50 for IB.

    $0.005 for the rest

  6. I believe it is $27.50

    .01 for first 500
    .005 for the remaining 4500

maybe their limit orders are just as good, but it seems in my experience I got better fills on IB

I say "seems" because I dont know enough to prove it, it just looked that way in my experience. IB is a direct access broker, AMTD is not. but if it's true, better fills on a 5000 order can more than make up for the comm.

I am happy with Ameritrade fill comparing to my direct access broker.

  8. $5 up to 5000

and options commisssions seem to have come down, and can be negotiated.... less than most retailers. Less than cyber, but no routing.

  9. Yes, sounds like a Datek story. And sounds like a Datek frustration. On ISLD this could explain why there are 3 and 4 digits after every decimal point. Example: "$25.0040". Does this look like a limit order you would normally type in the order window on a day-to-day basis? I don't think so. It would take too much time to type a long string of numbers.

To learn more about kickbacks, please see a new thread I named "Ameritrade kickbacks and false facts" in this forum, or click http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=13300.

Sorry, I am new to this game. What do you exactly mean by a "direct access " broker?

    Thank you in advance.
