Didn't these same Hollywood celebrities keep harping on that the Trump tax cuts only benefit the rich? Now, that these extreme liberals who are filthy rich that they instead, will pay more in taxes, they are livid! Call it karma for lying to try and score political points with the voters!

Federal Government's job is to provide for national defense. So saying something like "but army though" is just dumb. Now, if you want to talk about all the bases around the world, or the massive amount of spending on national defense (which is really for defense of other countries, etc) then I am with you.

But the left can't complain about national defense spending and then get all pissy when Trump calls on countries in NATO to spend their fair share.

And I can make the argument that the federal government's job is to provide for education and healthcare as it does national defense.

The primary purpose of the U.S. federal government when it was formed was to provide for a national defense. Many people at the time believed that this was the sole and only proper purpose for the U.S. federal government.

  8. That is really not true, even the Federalist papers talked in detail about collecting taxes, regulating interstate commerce. With respect to the Constituion it was written "The Constitution also gives Congress an impressive list of powers. The list includes the well-known powers to “regulate Commerce . . . among the several states” and to collect taxes to provide for “the general Welfare of the United States.” But it also includes a host of other powers: raising an army, establishing uniform national laws on naturalization and on bankruptcy, coining money and regulating its value, issuing patents and copyrights, and making treaties. On top of that,Congress can make laws that don’t fall within this list of powers but are “necessary and proper” to carry them out."

This was a strong view of the Federalists and Washington, Hamilton and Jefferson when he took office. So history bears a different view of what the Union was meant for. The Confederation was so weak it cause so many problems that many agreed to a stronger Federal government evidenced by the powers enumerated in the document creating it.

Yes, I will agree that Alexander Hamilton and the two other Federalist paper authors outlined the intention to regulate interstate commerce and to have port and excise duties as taxes to support federal government operations. However most of the founding fathers focused on the primary purpose of the states banding together to form a federal government was to fund a common national defense. The need for a common defense is what go some states off the fence and to move beyond the Articles of Confederation to form the current version of our federal government.

BTW I saw the Hamilton show recently at the Durham Performing Arts Center in NC. Excellent show - I would urge others to see it.

  10. I tried to see it in D.C. and in NY...no luck (sold out).

My original point was that we call people socialist in this country and equate them with Venezuela. Venezuela is an oil rich country where the government keeps all the money and shits all over the people. In Cuba, Castro family is super wealthy and the people were asked to split crumbs. They were never true socialist, they got power and were corrupt as any leader who gets their hand on money/power. Castro became as bad as Bautista.

So when we call Bernie socialist it is funny because although he says education should be free blah blah blah, he would never be a true socialist or even half way close to what Chavez and Castro were/are. People say we should not pay for others as we are not socialists but we pay taxes and provide benefits to millions of people and we also take advantage of taxes paid by other people. You pay real estate taxes but have no kids in the local school system but when you were in school same thing occurred.

Bernie's plan is not silly because it is socialism, it is silly because community colleges are already discounted heavily due to being supported by county taxes and making them free would cost so much money we don't have. Saying you tax Wall Street and use those fund to pay for free college for people is not socialism it is just stupid.

It becomes a weak crutch to just label people like that socialists but in reality the GOP has paid heavy subsidies to farmers and spends millions of dollars in aid to other countries, JUST like the Dems. Socialism is not just a leftis policy in modern times.

We practice global socialism if you want to get technical. My tax dollars go to give free shit to countries all around the world while U.S. citizens get less benefit for their taxes.
