The mortgage standards were watered down by Barney Frank, Dodd and friends in Congress. The Federal Reserve denied a bubble and kept interest rates low and allowed loan standards to loosen. Wall street was selling seconds as if they were smart money. Then the FED pretty much guaranteed the investment by china into a 1.5 trillion dollar pool of crappy seconds. (allowing china to continue their peg.) Bush had very little to do with that... although he was not a good president in my book.

I agree about Iraq because that war was prosecuted very poorly. Almost like it was designed to fail after the shooting war ended. Bush deserves that blame. But he was not the head guy for the mortgage crisis. The head guy would be the bankers on Wall Street who to ordered their figurehead Fed Chairman to tell Congress we were not in a bubble and therefore they could have keep pushing no income no docs seconds at low rates to people who were not even making any money and Congress was like... good idea. Lend more to people who have almost no income. Obama did inherit a mess. But he did not help things once he ended the payroll tax break and let Bush's tax breaks sunset and then destroyed us with obamacare costs and taxes.
