"24 out of the 25 best schools in the country are extremely expensive, "
Harvard charges zero if your family income is less than 60k.
your remark is the usual lie saying a truth in a way to mislead.

I'm gonna stick to subjective trading and technical discussions on this site as it appears there are better places for this sort of discussion.

The core tenants of Leninism (hence little L) are actually quite consistent with my arguments concerning income inequality and the importance of an educated middle class. Note that I am not directly advocating socialism, just as the little L libertarian doesn't advocate the complete privatization of education.

"...the achievement of a dictatorship of the proletariat, as political prelude to the establishment of socialism."

  5. Unfortunately you then implicitly believe income inequality can be controlled by the government apparatus.. Which has the contrary effect

In middle school my friend was basically a C+ student.

His dad gave him a speech that basically said if you want to go to college with your friends that are very smart, you better get top grades to earn a full academic scholarship because I ain't paying for shit. :D

Basically his dad understood the student debt and understood something else about that debt...its a problem for parents because some of that debt the parents are on the hook for if the student is unable to pay or defaults...scary.

Anyways, my friend got top grades in high school and got a full ride to a top university. As for his parents...debt free just like my friend because that student loan debt impacts your quality of life beyond what a college kid can imagine when in college.

  7. There is something about you Americans I am having difficulties understanding :
    * why complain/argue about student loans, instead of giving free education to the students.
In my country, we even pay students when they go to university.
Sure it is not a fortune, but as they are also entitled to free accomodation, discounted transport,
the grant they get is so advantageous that even our village idiots make the wise choice
of getting a degree ( if they manage to qualify academically to start uni).

    Please enlighten me.

  8. As someone who went to a private school vs my fathers better judgement of going to a public institituion, I have no problem paying back my student loans (currently sitting at 48k, down from initial loan of 58k). I work in finance and pay minimum amount per month. Once bonus/tax returns come in, I put them towards the balance which takes off a nice chunk. I work in manhattan so I do not have a car or the insurance that comes with it and I live in brooklyn to save on rent so I'm able to manage comfortably.

I do agree with previous posters that taking out 50-80k for an Art Major degree is a bit of a waste. The problem with my generation is identifying what's practical and what's not. And they have horrible reasons to justify their stupid decisions and when its explained to them what they're doing is bad, they immediately look for a scape goat and blame someone else. I hate my generation. They suck.

What is the population of your country, the breakdown of students into socio economic strata. Canadians come on here and compare a country with 38 million population to the U S. I see 18 million people on the freeways everyday in southern California. Think that may impact the problems a bit?
