The fact that congress embezzled the money does not change the fact that those dollars were taken from us for one purpose and one purpose only, which is to provide a retirement income. Yes, we get a poor return on our money and that too is not our fault. A criminally corrupt congress is a fault.
This is what the Democrats have had in the works for 50+ years and they may have already gotten us soooo far that we cannot turn around the ship..who knows thou. I think we are toast. That article above citing that 60%+ of guberment outlays are to benefits inwhich the gubernment gets no service from. How fucking sad is that?? Yes, some of this has been paid in (SS, Medicare), but even those funds have been raped and pillaged by the politicians for their greedy little hands. It's all very upsetting...considering we are having to fight for our lives currently with the FTT coming from the liberal union thugs and European socialists. The same people who got us in the socialism mindset and sucking on the tit of the gubernmnet....they want more and more until it comes to a war!
While I'd have no problem lynching congress for crimes against it's citizenry. Even making the punishment retroactive to all pertinent previous congressmen. If the SS money is spent/gone, seems to me we have to deal with that reality. Even if it's not fair to those of us who've been paying into the broken system for decades.

Congress didn't embezzle anything - they did exactly what voters insisted they do - spend all of it, and then some, on the Now, leaving nothing forthe Future. Nothing is going to change until voters stop blaming everyone else, and take a long hard look in the mirror.
