a very, very clever retort... if all of us could just be mindless rednecks, the world would be such a great place...
That's nothing!! Look at this: Iraq will chair the United Nations' most important disarmament negotiating forum during the panel's May session. From: http://asia.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/01/28/sprj.irq.disarmament.conference/
your arguments have already been addressed ten times over in this very chit chat forum on other threads, i just didn't feel like rephrasing them
LOL. hilarious! (well, it would be if it wasn't so tragic..) there's another one for the UN blooper reel... i'm not an american, but my dad's a us citizen. am i allowed to comment on this thread? if so, i'd have to agree with some of what bung' said. the idea of invading iraq having anything to with removing a despot that has killed his own people, or that "he hates us" is just a (laughable) feel-good rationalization. and it's not even necessary. the two main reasons, that i see, are pretty much good enough justification: 1) saddam's potential for aiding terrorist activities (i like the way bung' frames what he's currently doing as a 'publicity stunt') and 2) saddam's contravention of the peace terms of '91. (and that scenario is about oil -- not about 'stealing' it (candletraitor's old song and dance) -- but that geopolitical stability in the region is so important precisely because of oil)
I'm not disagreeing with you there. Quite the opposite. We all need tons of oil. I get REALLY pissed when people lie to me, whether it's politicians or family members making bullshit excuses about stuff like I'm an idiot who doesn't have his ear to the ground and doesn't know what's going on... I mean, call a spade a spade - if you want oil, don't lie about it. If Bush would say "we need that friggin' oil in Iraq! And we need it now before Saddam can pump it and sell it!" THEN I would have SOME respect for him. I'm just tired of being lied to... And I'm also pissed that MY tax dollars are paying for this war - and Haliburton and all of those other PRIVATE companies who pollute MY environment line their POCKETS from this WAR that MY tax dollars are paying for. Thanks for listening. -b
Who are they going to sell it to? There is not an insatiable monthly unmet demand for oil. Selling it to Russia and/or France simply reduces those two countries need to buy it elsewhere, thereby producing an increase in supply, elsewhere. Now, if your pal Saddam sets off a nuclear device contaminating that regions oil, the entire world as we know it is, well... fucked, to put it lightly.
Is this like the time we invaded Iraq the first time and kept all their oil, and Kuwait's oil, or the time we prevailed over Japan and Germany and kept their countries for our own? Oh, that's right. I almost forgot. We didn't. We gave them back their freedom, helped them rebuild their countries economies, and 25 years later they returned with their cars and electronics and kicked our economic butts fair and square. What's better, freedom and hard work or the terony(sic) and repression? . What was the behavior of the Iraqis' after they invaded Kuwait, the Japanese after they invaded Nanking and the Phillipines, or the Nazis after they invaded their neighbors? That was a whole different story.
