Again, I'm not saying that it is or is not being run at peak efficiency. Therefore I have no reason to let my blood start "boiling".

I grew up in New York in Long Island near the city line. I remember in the old days most grocery stores had policies that the manager had to come over and approve the use of food stamps for payment.

The cashier would always get on the Mic and loudly page the manager. - "Manager to register 1 for Food stamp approval. We need food stamp approval on register 1. Mr. XYZ, Please come to register 1 for food stamp approval."

The cashiers always made every effort to be deliberatively excessive and embarrass the food stamp payers at every grocery store. Back in those days being on public assistance was considered being the low of the low in every middle class community.

So basically ignore reality at all costs so as not to have to face the fact that big government is not efficient.

The cutting of fraud in public assistance program is about maintaining the public trust that the programs funded by tax-payers are not being abused. If proper oversight is applied to TANF, SNAP, etc. then the cost of the oversight should cost more than the level of waste - this proves the oversight is effective.

Currently the oversight is lacking and more money must be spent to provide improved oversight of the public assistance programs because the public is losing confidence quickly in these programs and will elect politicians that promise to discontinue the programs - which would be a tremendous loss to the many people who do qualify and really need the programs.
