America Spreading Democracy

Discussion in 'Politics' started by dotslashfuture, Apr 11, 2003.

  1. America is spreading Democracy around the world.

THE CURRENT GOVERNMENTS OF GERMANY AND JAPAN WERE FORMED THROUGH U.S. INVASION AND OCCUPATION, AND THEN WE LEFT THEM TO RULE THEMSELVES.

    HISTORICAL FACT.

    rubbish

the current governments of Germany and Japan were formed through democratic elections - contrary to the Bush regime

you better "spread Democracy" in the USA first, before you tell others what to do - through invasion and occupation

  3. ok, you have really stepped in it this time!

    Ever heard of WWII ?

Ever heard of Hitler or the emperor of Japan ?

    Not democracies dear boy.

    Regimes overthrown by U.S. INVASION.

Both democracies were installed by U.S. forces after a period of military occupation and reconstruction.

If you honestly think you can refute this, please do yourself a favor and go look it up in the history book of your choice, or perhaps ask a history teacher.

    That's the point.

  5. Maybe stating that the current governmental structures in the former Axis countries were formed post war after allied victory and occupation would be more accurate.

  6. they were INSTALLED BY U.S. OCCUPATION.

I won't let you dodge this one, every german school kid knows what happened, and any american should know.

the mighty U.S. forces occupied slightly less than 20% of Germany [50% Russians, 30% British and French] and neither installed a democracy nor reconstructed Germany - the Germans did it all by themselves, largely against the wishes of their "liberators".

every german school kid knows what happened, and any american should know.

  8. its obvious by now that you are simply saying the opposite of whatever I say like a 12 yr old, but perhaps you really are a 12 yr. old and simply never learned history. Here are a few tidbits:

    Postwar Occupation and Division
On May 8, 1945, the unconditional surrender of the German armed forces (Wehrmacht) was signed by Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel in Berlin, ending World War II for Germany. The entire German territory was occupied by foreign armies.

    The Establishment of Occupation Zones
The total breakdown of civil administration throughout the country required immediate measures to ensure the rebuilding of civil authority. After deposing Admiral Karl Dönitz, Hitler's successor as head of state, and his government, the Allies issued a unilateral declaration on June 5, 1945, that proclaimed their supreme authority over German territory. The Allies would govern Germany through four occupation zones, one for each of the Four Powers--the United States, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union.
