Stock is off the lows this week after this announcement.
Stock skyrocketed recently, now there's speculation of Intel buyout.
That rumor has been out there for years!
Intel has no reason to buy them out.
AMD is not technology threat, Nor are they a market share threat. AMD no longer owns the fabs they produce chips in, and even if they did, Intel has invested in more advanced fabrication processes that are already in use on current products.
The only thing even half interesting to Intel is ATI's IP, but even then Intel has been trying to go their own way in the graphics world for a while now.
I can't see any strategic or tactical reason for Intel to buy AMD outside of "because they can."
