AMD pummeled any hope?

  1. It appears as though AMD is catching up with Intel. Sales of AMD's CPU's slightly surpassed Intel's recently 51% to 49%. I was surprised to discover this. AMD's Zen+ CPU's are also closer in performance to Intel's although still not at parity. Another surprise is AMD's Zen+ CPU's use a 12nm manufacturing process whereas Intel's Coffee Lake CPU's use a 14nm process. As we already know, Intel seems to be stuck at their 14nm process and cannot reduce to 10nm.

AMD's Zen+ successor, Zen 2, is expected to have an incredible 7nm process. Zen 2 is supposed to be released early 2019. Although, as far as I can remember AMD has always been late on their CPU releases. Still, if Zen 2 holds its promises, AMD's newest CPU could surpass Intel's in terms of performance. The last time that happened was the early 2000's with AMD's Socket A/462 Athlon Thunderbird line.

It's amazing how things have changed. Just a few years ago many people wrote off AMD. Many expected AMD to go under or be bought off and changed into an embedded CPU manufacturer.

As Nvidia increases its lead in the graphics market, all eyes are on AMD's EPYC server sales as investors track the company's efforts to reach their market share goals; mid-single digit share by EOY 2018 and double-digit by EOY 2019.AMD takes advantage of INTC's 10nm issues and security flaws.
