How to use dual channel with 3GB memory? 1BGx2 + 512MBx2? I read from the web that machines become unstable if one populates all 4 memory slots with 1GB stick. How is the stability of your system?
Do you use Cybertrader as 64bit native application or as 32bit app within XP64? Which other 64bit applications are you using with your XP 64?
Cybertrader runs in 32bit mode. So far, only I'm only using Internet Explorer 64bit and the game Far Cry. Both run fine. Main problem is java 1.4 web pages as there is no 64bit version of jre 1.4.
Guys, Well after recently upgrading to the Athlon 64 3500 Venice core chip, I have had a chance to test it thoroughly and it's very fast. For those thinking about upgrading, I also went with the Gigabit K8NS Ultra MB, a gig of DDR400 Dual Channel RAM and the WD 10,000 ARPM Rapter HD. This combo smokes. I was previously running the P4 2.8 chip with 512 meg of ram and this thing is literally 10 times faster. To give you some idea of the performance difference, my esignal set-up used to peak about 70% of CPU usage. The same set-up is now using 18%. I have an EFS script that processes every trade and used to spike my CPU usage up to 100% while loading. The Athlon loads the script with CPU usage never exceeding 5%. Running EFS scripts in tick replay that used to run at nearly 100% now run at about 30% - 40%. So even though it's not dual core, this chip delivers everything I was hoping it would in terms of real world performance for my trading machine. In some respects it's actually faster than I thought it would be. Runningbear
Probably the Gig of RAM dual channel and the 10K RPM Raptor combination make the real difference vs. P4 2.8 and the only 512Mb RAM.
Wait a few weeks because a new Raptor is coming out. 150Gb Raptor, 16Mb cache, average seek 4.5 ms, serial ATA-300 and support for NCQ (native command queuing, whatever that means). Available probably in january; price: about 319 euro. Should be the fastest Serail ATA available.
Wow, awesome. Thanks Spike. A waste of RPMs if you're getting 1.5GB transfer rates with SATA II at 3.0GB.
WDC site does not shows it but in Germany it's available for about EUR 320. Still canot find a full WD150AD specs sheet.
