I mean I don't know who voted for him, but in all fairness he never imagined he would end up where he is. He was just a guy down on his luck. Let him enjoy his fame. It seems like the guy really needed a break. I'm sure this experience will change his life. A democrat wasn't winning that seat anyways.

In the rigged system known as American democracy, getting almost 10% of the vote is very good for a third party candidate.

We could test this hypothesis by looking at races where a black Republican ran against a white Democrat. But such races are scarce as hen's teeth, and finding one where we can get the relevant polling data would be very difficult indeed.

  8. Black democrat against a black republican(Obama /Keyes)

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/vote2004/2004-11-02-il-ussenate_x.htm

Obama won the support of nine out of 10 black voters and seven out of 10 white voters, according to voter interviews conducted at the polls Tuesday for The Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International. About 40% of Republicans backed Obama, as did 75% of independents.

Keyes drew his strongest backing from white Protestant conservatives, according to the poll of 1,392 Illinois voters. Results were subject to sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, higher for subgroups.

Black conservative tea party backers take heat

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - They've been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white tea party movement—and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation's first black president.

"I've been told I hate myself. I've been called an Uncle Tom. I've been told I'm a spook at the door," said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

"Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks," he said.

  10. Blacks supporting white democrats nearly the same as Obama

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/107110/obamas-support-similar-kerrys-2004.aspx

Democratic candidates at the presidential level have traditionally received the overwhelming majority of black votes. In 2004, Kerry won over Bush among blacks by 88% to 11%. At this point, Obama is winning over McCain by a 91% to 5% margin. So, there is little difference in how Obama fares among blacks compared to how Kerry did in 2004, in part a result of the already very high, "pre-existing" Democratic tilt of black voters as seen in previous presidential elections.
