Triple A in B-way You can edit out nearly all the toolbars in QT. QT operates from what it calls "portfolios" You can create and have open multiple portfolios across multiple monitors. These can be as busy or as plain as you like. High/low/last etc. You can have a portfolio window with just one symbol and make the rest of the screen a chart, multiple charts, t&s, news whatever. If you want to add a second symbol, just hit insert button, type in symbol. Presto. Click on symbol in list. Puts that symbol in a chart, or charts if you have charts linked. Any time frames. If you want a symbol not on your list, simply type symbol in active chart. You can have multiple pushpin colors linked to portfolios linked to charts, linked to multiple monitors. Any or all charts can update at once, or individually. In any time frame. Including historical charts. What's also cool about QT is you can add data stream on the fly with one license. Say Esig goes down. Trading is done for the day right? Wrong. Make change in data souce/proxy menu and switch to IB, Iqfeed, about 50 others. Works seamlessly. Stay with recommended data sources. Takes about 10 seconds. Or have 2 data feeds run at the same time. Just make certain not to use the same symbol in both. For example I have QT running on Iqfeed as back up for stock trading and its filtering stocks from Trade Ideas. At the same time I also have another QT version running but this one being fed by IB data for my futures backup with integrated order entry. Just click on the chart. Order placed. Historical backfill Eod stocks goes back years. I can check to see how many. At least 2. And you can link with Prophet net and get the entire history. ID backfill usually caps out at 10 days. Depends on your broker/data source. Wish I had QT when I started out. $400/month for 10 minute delayed satellite delievered data. I thought I was THE MAN.

Thanks Jerry. I was looking at your website. The screen shot you have shows a lot of screen space taken by tool bars, watch lists, etc. I assumed they could be hidden but wanted to make sure. I am a bit confused by the need to have the chartable in a portfolio or watchlist. Is that a database kept on the HD? Can I create a chart and just add a symbol by typing it in or do I need to first add it to a list somewhere and collect data for it? I really appreciate the level of support you provide, both here and through your site. That level of personal attention is rare for vendors. I'll probably download the demo and give it a try. At the least i can use QT for RT futures and keep QCharts for historical. Basically I'm tired of paying the money for the RT exchange data.
I noticed that the list doesn't seem to work like it used to. Switching servers on the fly doesn't seem to work very well most of the time. I have been traveling for a few days and haven't used it, so my observations are based on the last few weeks. Definitely seeing an increase in delayed data, with other feeds on the same ISP not lagging, so I think it's something on their end.
Are you saying you get 6 months of intraday backfill with IB? And do you get it just by punching up a symbol? Is this for stocks only or also futures? Thanks for your advice.
I've had good results using the following technique: 1. edit your "ContinuumClient.ini" file (it's probably in c:\program files\quote.com\qcharts 5.1") 2. find the line that says "AutoUpdateServerList=true" and change the setting to "false" 3. delete all of the "server=" lines except the one that you have found works best
AAAintheBeltway - the screenshots may need a bit of updating QT stores all the quotes it gets from Level I datafeeds and uses them to build the chart. It can also backfill the data, in order to build the chart for time periods when you may not have been running QT or not watching that particular symbol You can open a chart on some symbol (just to bring up a chart), then type in the new symbol right into the chart without first having to add the new symbol to any portfolio. If you are using a good datafeed that has backfill, QT will auto-backfill the chart at that point. It will also automatically start getting quotes for that symbol so the chart will stay updated IB returns 12 months of data for Historical data. For Futures, it may be less - whatever they have for the given contract.
