So you think cars are an alternative to fiat currency? K, so, hmm. I like your house. I will give you my Honda Civic for it. What car will you exchange to me for your house?
I'll sell you my house for 75 Honda Civics, please! LOL!! I think we're reading "alternatives to fiat currency" (correctly) as things that might FUNCTION as "alternatives to fiat currency." I think what OP really meant to say was what are some alternatives to HOLDING fiat currency as in... hmm... what can I exchange my fiat for that I might like to hold onto for a while?
I am currently out in 3rd world America ( Rural poverty trap.) Guns, gold and drugs are established methods of barter exchange. Labor for "X" also works. The true advantage to these methods is tax savings. In Washington State vehicle title swaps are also allowed. It has been a good lesson in stone age economics. Horse trading every day, Akuma
There are barter movements in Europe, now made easier to operate via apps. Plumbing job in exchange for woodwork and such. No money exchange, no taxes to pay... It's like a post BTC world for libertarians and anarchists!
Make that a "Reserve Curency" and I could agree. That basket made good sense in 1944, but Dexter White and the U.S. Treasury Department saw differently. They wanted more control than the basket would have given the U.S. And insisted on a gold backed dollar being the reserve currency. All of the consequences that were foreseen in 1944 followed exactly as predicted. In the end, the scheme cooked up in 1944 but not fully instituted until 1957 lasted only about 14 years before becoming untenable.
