There's lampooning in your posts, and then there's changing someone's name when you quote them to Sphincter as you have already done FOUR times today (along with many changes to names and post content in the past). Enough of this childish nonsense, you got my PM earlier and you have been warned.
What's childish nonsense is communicating policy with threats after you wrote that you "hope others doing it follow suit." Especially since you're not listed as a mod for P&R and didn't say it's a policy for P&R.
It's infantile and offensive on a chat board to quote someone else and in the process purposely change their name (especially to something degrading) or purposely change the content of their post. If what they say offends you that much either put them on Ignore, or respond by countering their arguments. Unless, of course, you can't counter their arguments with rational statements. Many members have complained to me about the name changes along with the post content being changed on purpose, and frankly enough is enough. Here's a few portions of ET's Member Conduct Rules which apply to ALL forums: "...you are not to upload, post, or otherwise distribute or facilitate distribution of any content...that: * contains excessive profanity or vulgar language * is insulting or argumentative without merit, unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory... uses vulgar language in the creation of a user name... * victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of politics, religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, age, or disability" Changing someones' name when you quote their post to something oh-so clever like Sphincter easily violates the above, and changing the content of their post to something insulting, harassing, or degrading (which was also regularly done) similarly violates the Conduct Rules. Besides being childish and pathetic. Anyway, the statement below is also part of the Conduct Rules which encompasses things possibly not covered or clearly delineated above (and please note the word inaccurate). This is ET policy which covers ALL forums. "Elite Trader and its agents have the right at their sole discretion to remove any content that, in Elite Trader's judgment, does not comply with the Member Conduct Rules or is otherwise harmful, objectionable, or inaccurate. Elite Trader and its agents may suspend or ban users posting such content at any time without notice."
Really? I withdraw my pledge to not alter quotations or nicknames. P&R cannot exist under the conditions you cite. Quite a few were going to voluntarily comply before you became forceful about it.
Altering Members' Posts And Names Looks like Magna has embraced a new crusade du jour. Of course unless Baron intervenes and rules in favor of allowing Altering Members' Posts And Names Maximus Ego will get his way. (was that a TOS violation?)
Sorry, no "crusade du jour" although that does sound catchy, I take care of a number of issues and concerns every day but it rarely ends up in the Feedback forum. Here's how this went down: BSAM started a valid thread stating his concern for a practice that had gotten out of hand. A number of other members have made similar complaints to me over a period of time. I stated my opinion and hoped to encourage others to voluntarily end the juvenile practice. Pretty much all complied and I thought the issue was dead. Then it was pointed out to me that Trader666 was ignoring the request and seemed to be going out of his way to harass others by repeatedly altering their names/posts to make them look foolish. I sent him a Private Message telling him to cease 'n desist. He took it public in this thread trying to get Baron to give the official nod that anything goes in P&R and any attempt to moderate it is misguided "Political Correctness". 377OHMS wanted to know when it became "policy". I answered by showing it has always been policy, I was now enforcing it due to numerous complaints and because I thought this demeaning practice should stop. 377OHMS got offended and said P&R cannot exist under the conditions I cited. Not sure what that meant, as I was quoting a portion of the Member Conduct rules to explain the background for this one policy issue â that members should not be altering other member's names/posts when they quote them. Nothing more. No general sweeping rule changes. P&R can return to vigorous political and religious debate. signed, Maximus Ego
Speaking of inaccurate, your characterization of what I asked Baron is not even close. I asked him about changing names only; my exact words were "Do you want to ban lampooning names in P&R?" which is totally different than asking him to give the official nod that anything goes in P&R. It can't, at least not as it is now.
What if one does not answer, but some poster continues the insults/name changes/etc for dozens of times if not more than a hundred times? Do you think the forum, the forum's ownership, and even the moderators could be responsible somehow if they do not act ? Since you are a moderator, I assume you will share this information with the forum ownership, and other responsible people, so that everyone knows.
