Look who is back in court and is going to be paying big damages for his continual string of lies. His declaring bankruptcy for his media outlets while moving and hiding all the money as personal assets is no longer going to work.

Alex Jones Faces Paying Damages For Sandy Hook Claims After Defamation Case Returns To Court
    https://www.unilad.co.uk/news/alex-jones-infowars-sandy-hook-bankruptcy-trial-defamation-20220521

The families of Sandy Hook victims are set to resume their lawsuit against Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones for calling the 2012 Newtown school shooting a hoax, after a federal judge approved their case and referred them to a court in Austin, Texas.

Jones has already been found guilty of defamation and causing emotional distress to the parents of several Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims when he claimed the mass shooting, which took the lives of 20 children and six adults, was part of a hoax perpetrated by the government in order to restrict gun rights.

In an earlier hearing, Jones claimed he was suffering from 'a form of psychosis' when he made the remarks.

However, the trial was briefly put on hold earlier this year after Jones attempted to wriggle out of paying a settlement by declaring bankruptcy a week before a jury was set to convene how much he and his company were liable to pay in damages.

Jones filed bankruptcy charges for three of his media companies – Infowars, Prison Planet TV and IW Health – in order to claim protection from any damages.

However, this week a federal bankruptcy judge released Jones from bankruptcy protection and sent his defamation cases back to state court in Texas, where Infowars HQ is located.

The trial does not currently have a start date but is expected to resume next month.

“[We] are relieved but not surprised that Mr. Jones’ latest stunt has failed like all the others,” said Mark Bankston, an attorney representing four parents who won two defamation cases against Jones last year.

“Mr. Jones will now be held to account in a Travis County courtroom in the coming weeks, and these families will finally have the closure and recompense they deserve.”

Since the Sandy Hook cases went to court last year Jones has already paid over $10 million in legal fees and is reported to have lost at least $20 million, his representatives said in court.

However, despite these losses Jones did not file for bankruptcy protection himself because he feared doing so would damage his brand in the conspiracy theory market, his representatives claimed.

Attorneys for the Sandy Hook families have accused Jones of trying to hide millions of dollars in assets, after it was reported that he made over $76 million in 2019.

As well as the Austin hearing, Jones also faces a trial in Connecticut to determine how much money he must pay other Sandy Hook families for defamation, in addition to a previous case he lost in the same state where an FBI agent and eight families who lost loved ones in the massacre also won a defamation case against him in 2021.

Just amounts to more funds for lawsuits to extract from Alex Jones personally.

Alex Jones Gets $5 Million Crypto Gift After Losing Sandy Hook Defamation Suits
After Jones lost a defamation suit against parents of Sandy Hook victims, he called for cryptocurrency donations "to prosecute a war" against "the enemy".

Disinformation peddler, human tomato, and InfoWars host Alex Jones has an anonymous benefactor shoveling millions of dollars of bitcoin into his crypto wallet. The windfall comes on the cusp of a financial disaster for Jones: he’ll soon know just how much he’ll be liable for after losing multiple defamation lawsuits over his lies that the children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 weren’t real.

The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch reported Thursday that Jones has an unknown crypto millionaire sitting in his corner. The donor supplied Jones 206 bitcoin worth over $5 million May 19 and 52 bitcoin worth around $2 million in April, all from a single crypto wallet.

The money landed in Jones’ coffers after a “tearjerker” episode of his InfoWars podcast May 18 that saw the host pleading for more crypto donations “to prosecute a war” against “the enemy.” Jones often gets support from people who try to remain anonymous, including some web advertising services.

The donation comes on the heels of Jones’ multiple losses in the defamation cases brought by parents of Sandy Hook victims. Lawyers for the Sandy Hook families said in court filings that the InfoWars mouthpiece was trying to hide his company’s assets through shell companies and by filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which shields companies from civil lawsuits. Jones will not enjoy such protection, however: federal bankruptcy Judge Julia Manning dropped all three of Jones’ businesses from bankruptcy protection.

Whoever this individual or group is donating to Jones, they don’t seem to mind flushing more cash down the toilet (AKA, Jones’ mouth). The price of bitcoin hit a peak in April but has since declined precipitously. It’s now trading at its lowest rates since late 2020.

Though he’s been humbled by the parents of a previous school shooting, Jones doesn’t seem to be learning from his mistakes. The most recent school massacre in Uvalde, Texas has spawned numerous conspiracy theories, and Jones has taken them up with fervor, as has Arizona Republican Representative Paul Gosar. Jones’ most recent episode of InfoWars May 24 included him hinting to his audience that the latest shooting might be staged.

“It’s very opportunistic what’s happening,” Jones said.

The courts and DOJ are no longer going to put up with Alex Jones looting his companies into his personal pocket to avoid paying legal settlements by abusing the bankruptcy system. They are coming to strip him of every dime of personal assets.

Alex Jones' attempt to hide Infowars cash from Sandy Hook families could 'rock our bankruptcy world': legal experts
    https://www.rawstory.com/alex-jones-sandy-hook-lawsuit-2657442951/

The Infowars bankruptcy case could set a new precedent for companies using the court against their legal challengers.

The right-wing conspiracy site's owner Alex Jones is using “Subchapter V” bankruptcy to limit his obligation to pay off judgments for making false statements about the Sandy Hook shooting, but the Department of Justice is seeking to dismiss the bankruptcy case altogether by arguing the site's three debtors are nothing but shell companies, reported Axios.

"The strategy employed here ... is a novel and dangerous tactic that is abusive and undermines the integrity of the bankruptcy system," wrote the DOJ's watchdog in a court filing.

Jones was found liable in multiple defamation suits by families of Sandy Hook victims, and the damages trial was set to go when three small companies affiliated with the conspiracy theorist filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy using a relatively new subchapter to help small businesses reorganize rather than liquidate.

"I think it's fair to say that the drafters of subchapter V didn't envision this type of filing," said Ryan Preston Dahl, a partner in Ropes & Gray's business restructuring group, which is not involved in the Infowars case. "Subchapter V is intended to rehabilitate small businesses."

Subchapter V offers a streamlined process for companies with a debt load less than $3 million and currently engaged in business activities, and the companies that Jones put in bankruptcy hold few assets themselves so the plan seemed to be for him to funnel some of his money into them, have the bankruptcy court decide damages and have creditors -- the Sandy Hook families -- accept whatever was awarded.

“Courts have been clear that shell companies don’t cut it, but the analytical framework is certainly more of a sliding-scale test than a hard-and-fast calculation,” Nicholas Koffroth, an attorney with Fox Rothschild LLP, told Bloomberg Law. “A ruling in this case will add another marker on the sliding scale to help elucidate what circumstances may or may not fit within the Subchapter V eligibility standard.”

If the bankruptcy is allowed to go through, legal experts say, the Infowars case could have a seismic impact on other lawsuits.

“If this is allowed to go forward and to do so in Subchapter V — where there’s special benefits that are intended for somebody else, not these people — that will rock our bankruptcy world,” said Donald L. Swanson, a bankruptcy attorney and shareholder at Koley Jessen.
