  1. "In politics, absurdity is not a handicap - Napoleon Bonaparte"

"Well, there is a kernal of truth there. Strom Thurmond and his like used to be Democrats before they splintered into the 'Dixiecrats'.

Of course, the south went Republican but kept the racism part."

"Political parties evolve over time. In its roots during the 19th century, the Democratic party was more racist than the Republicans. But since the turn of that century they switched places. Not that Republicans have actually become more racist, but the Democrats improved faster until they were the Civil Rights party."

"The Democratic party had been a natural fit for Christian Southerners up until around the Civil Rights movement, since the South was and is much poorer than the rest of the country, and Jesus was more about taking care of the poor than he was about supply side economics. However the Civil Rights movement itself was a major factor in polarizing Southern Christians against the Democratic party and converting them into Republicans. The Civil Rights movement precipitated a swap between the red and blue states. The Republican Party was not a force for civil rights it was a refuge from it.

They should be studying more recent history rather than ancient history."

Believe me, the folks who make and run these ads are well aware that all of the things they're talking about were 70-100 years ago. They're just hoping that the public doesn't know that.

Just too simple minded, thus more easily refuted concept.
