It wasn't a personal attack unless you are a liberal (which you claim you aren't if I recall correctly). Question though- why do you believe the government can offer better healthcare at reduced rates when it's a proven fact that all other government agencies operate like shit and at astronomical costs?
This is only the beginning/tip of the iceberg. Our congress does not solve problems they only create MORE problems, mostly through unintended consequences. Their idea of a program's "success" isn't measured by whether or not it achieved the original goal, but by how big the program's annual budget is. Just look at the Dept of ED. or the DEA as perfect indisputable examples. It's all down hill from here folks. And no amount of "hope" is going to "change" that inconvenient truth.
well, I have two parents on social security and medicare. It's a fucked up deal when you think about it, but it has stabilized their old age. So I wouldn't go so far as to say "everything" government does is bad. If it wasn't for medicare and social security taxes they'd be twice as rich as they are now but it was nice getting a free 220k pacemaker
my grandmother grew up on the farm. The only cash she saw her whole life was what she could get selling eggs out of the henhouse. when they came up with "Social Security" My grandfather said, "She picks up her check at one end of town, and by the time she walks to the other side of town, it's all gone." Is that a bad thing?
Oh course not, it's a stupid statement they make. You can travel anywhere in America and not have to worry about unsafe drinking water, food poisoning, fire and police protection, child labor sweat shops and on and on all due to government regulations. Of course there's waste and mismanagement guess what it's in private industry also. There isn't going to be perfection. Some things in a society can only be done through government.
Those "good things" you mentioned that the government did are all true. But they were done many decades ago or longer. Our government has gotten so big that most of the shit they do now is designed to take your money, take your privacy, or take away your constitutional rights.
I'm glad our generation has paid to stabilize their old age. But where is the money going to come from to stabilize OUR old age? SS will be bankrupt before I even retire, and all the money I paid in will be long gone.
