In recent months we have seen vendors popping up claiming you can earn endless riches using their AI trading systems. These characters are no different than the vendors promising amazing results with automated system trading in the past. Now they are just leaning into AI as their marketing crutch, no different than corporations claiming that all of their products are driven by AI in their marketing material -- even when the product they sell has little to do with AI. These AI system vendors provide the typical back-testing claims showing amazing profits over a set period of time using particular instruments in a curve-fitted result set. Naturally nearly all of these systems are worthless when actually applied forward in the market or used with other financial instruments. All of this leads to the question -- what can AI be used for in the market in regards to investing and trading? AI may have a use in screening for possible set-ups or trading ideas -- but many targeted tools (non-AI) exist for this already. What advantage would AI with a sizeable LLM provide in these tasks -- would it find better/more set-ups? Faster screening? Reacting to news quicker? All comes down to the question of what is the proper fit of AI for traders? Where is the benefit?
