  1. Anek... sorry to hear that you will be away for a little. Hope you get better soon looking forward to more charts.

Don't know if the following will be of use to anyone, but it has a way that I play breakouts into new trends which is different than anek. I prefer better r/w but I often miss the breakouts, so to each person his own. Same principles though. I don't remember what date this is. I was meaning to analyze it, but never got around to it. Comments were meant for me, but maybe useful for others...

  2. Kid,

    You getting better :)

As long as you only trade what's in the chart and never what you think, you will continue to improve, no doubt about it.

  3. Thanks Anek. I've been lucky to stumble my way across good teachers every step of the way.... you've helped me get to an entirely new level in my trading even effecting my swing trading.

Slowly, I am improving and noticing day in and day out how my eyes are able to pick up more and more.

All that's left is my psychology to deal with. I need to start trading sim trading like real otherwise I won't transition properly(I am still experimenting with setups every single day nearly). While this is good for innovation, I think it's *definetely* better to take only the setups I know work and in hindsight see if my new patterns are applicable in the future or not (so as not to disrupt the current process of trading).

Going to the las vegas trader's expo next week with a club at my school and bringing Trading in the Zone with me so I can read it during the trip.

I will continue to post my trades here and anything else I find useful as long as you are ok with it. I started a journal but since all I do is price action, I decided to just post all my charts and ideas in this thread instead.

  4. A. There may not be anything to say, but yesterday I think a lot of us got chopped trying to hold on to positions. You were making quick scalps. Was there anything different about yesterday that kept you from holding trades, or just your normal trading?

  5. esu,

IMO there are 2 things you can do with those trend lines.

    1. Aggressively enter short or long in the direction of the trend when the trendline is touched. This will have a lower accuracy due to not having confirmation, but it does offer better R/R because you can make your stop really small and if the trade does go in your favor you should gain more. If you do not have a small stop on these aggressive plays then you are not taking advantage of entering early.

    2. Enter after the trendline is touched, with a confirming bar. A confirming bar being one the closes above or below the previous bars high or low respectively. This offers less R/R but the accuracy should be much higher.

By the sounds of it you are doing #1, but not taking advantage of the smaller stop. I don't think you are wrong in taking these trades, you just need to limit your loss. If you are worried about avoiding those trades, use #2. Both those trendline touches did not have confirming bars afterward.

  6. A. I looked at your trades from Friday and on the 1000nq, it was clear that you were basically following the earlier trendline summary from a couple of days ago, (below). You made one reverse to the upside apparently based on a longbar up, but everything else seemed pretty much by the book. Looks like exits were mostly on a reversal bar and adds were off of reversal formations like the W breakout abound 11:20. The actual numbers really help. Thanks,

    D

Sample for an uptrend line in jeopardy.
    Look out for the following:
1-Was the last high a higher high ?
2-Was the last high a double top ?
3-Was the last high a lower high ?

On top of that you want bars closing below the trendline + 1 tick below the breakdown's bar low, this give you the signal assuming 2 or 3, definitely not 1.

If the case is 1, I would not short it, I will simply wait for the higher low to get back in, regardless of the "TL Break" which in this case it's more like noise since TLs are not infallible. If it does break, then so be it, but coming from a higher high you don't want to short that unless a swing low is created first.

  7. Make sure you don't fall prey to any of the Snake Oil predators in there and don't forget to have fun.

  8. When I see nice volatility that's how I scalp otherwise the number of trades decreases because of the chop.

I made two mistakes so as you can see even the experienced ones screw up once in a while. We never stop learning because each day is different and eventhough there will come a time where you know exactly what you must do the trick is to it during the heat of the moment without blinking twice.

Note: Three black crows is a reversal pattern. Dont let the last half hour selloff fool you (or CNBC, ET or pit traders over the weekend and Monday morning). Be ready for any bullish signals Monday.....I'm sure you'll be ready for the bearish ones :D
