Consider asking your Mom for start up capital. Truth - You are not going to make it as an options trader. Be glad. Staring at a computer screen all day is not all that it is cracked up to be.
Number 7 Edge, you have to have an edge or positive expectation. Otherwise, you would be like playing in a casino, say in Las Vegas. All casino games are negative expectation for the player but, positive expectation for the casino. How many traders on ET trade without an edge?
How much capital are you looking to raise? $25K in an IRA + $20K in personal stuff you can sell = $45K. You don’t need more than this to reboot. I would say $20K is a good initial deposit for futures, so you have two shots at getting back in the groove. That is, if you know how to be in the groove in the first place. In the spirit of brutal honesty, your description of your past results makes that questionable. There are easier ways to make money than being a beginner at futures trading. The rational thing to do is to get a job to upgrade the lifestyle for yourself and your family and learn to trade as a hobby.
The advantage of trading futures is that a very small stake can be turned into a fortune if you know what you are doing. You do not need starting capital, you need trading knowledge. Prove you can trade one lot, surely you can capitalize yourself for that. You can accumulate a small stake that way. Then leverage optimally and compound to the liquidity threshold of your strategy.
my mom died of cancer last christmas...I am already the most successful person in my family and a huge motivating factor for why I want beyond average financial success. To help support them is the goal.
Honestly, and I'm not trying to be a jerk here. But, if you blew 140k 'buying options' you don't really have any business looking for more money from elsewhere to trade with. You're a failed trader. Markets are unforgiving and there's a million ways to lose. My trading isn't exactly going so well either. I lost like seven grand a while ago and I'm still digging my way out of that hole. I can't even imagine the mental state I would be in if I lost my whole stake like you did. You need to rebuild your confidence. Make some of it back before you go looking for OPM -- like at least 25% of it.
very possible...and probable. I have expanded quite a bit in the past few years...It is without a doubt an incredible asset...even though it doesn't make much money it is about as passive as it gets and I do not pay myself out of it even though it is basically 100% profit at this point and just use the capital for expansion. I would probably value it at around $250k but dont think i would accept that offer...I've been around this stuff enough to know when I have a winner lol.
