I'd say you had a definable edge.
Vegetarian is an old Indian word for poor hunter.
The trader who takes multiple shots, instead of waiting for the perfect shot, will wound instead of kill. Wounded meat tastes terrible.
Sure you've got meat on the table and you can brag to your friends about what a great hunter you are, and maybe even teach a hunting course, but you've done a lot more work for than you needed to do.

ALL most always true, rifle shooting......................................................................
I love to eat wild game, dont brag, testify/big difference. On shotgun, HI volume works well game bird hunt in So America/HI volume is rightly named.
I would rather overwork[not overtrade] than underwork. :caution::caution:Good points DD

I hunt grouse with a 22. My edge is I'm fairly accurate and grouse are pretty dumb.

When I was much younger I liked my Remington 10/22 . Now I like my Sig226 9mm, Glock .40cal and Remington 12ga tactical pump shotgun.

Harvested a huge number of rabbits with a 12 gauge Remington 1100\banker dad had a pack of beagles,+ model 12 Winchester pump, 12 gauge; let the games begin, WE[me ,dad, bro] hunted many a saturday ,sunrise to sunset. Bro had a 12 gauge Savage.
[.22 rifle or pistol[RGR, S&W.....] is made for a sequence of shots, can do single shots if wanted. Mom was good shot also, she had a Remington Scoremaster .22 bolt action]

Here I support you, there really is a little overkill, but nothing can be done about it.

MOST are going to use a shotgun on squirrels or rabbits, maybe safer, depending. Easier, cheaper to do a sequence of shots, or single shot with a .22.
I shot a mouse with my .357 revolver magnum once ,rat shot[#9 size rat shot] LOL. But like the antelope hunter/ she said, ''still a good shot''..................................................
