@mukoh, Regarding the "f bomb" as you call it, when you're opening response starts with "the OP doesn't know what he's talking about", well lets just say that's not the best way to preface anything you have to offer me in the way of intelligent discourse. Regarding the racism, I don't know how often you frequent this place but if you meager a gander down in politics or even the feedback section here you'll quickly discover that ET has as of late become infested with several posters that among their many qualities seem to like to go on and on about the fathering quality of African Americans. Are you one of those(?), I don't know, but that's sure the way I read your post. I don't reply to those people and if one were to post that crap on one of my threads, yeah, they're gonna get it because I won't tolerate that sh*t. Trailer trash? Hardly bud. When I use the term check cashing places... they do more than cash checks. They do predatory payday loans, pay utility bills, issue money orders etc. Some do title loans. Its a 50 Billion annual business and growing. They predominantly serve the Black and Hispanic communities. I did a quick google and they are 4:1 in minority neighborhoods vs white neighborhoods. They serve the under-banked, which is what my post was all about. A call out to the ceo's of the major banks to address the issue. Obviously I do know what I'm talking about as there is a pretty strong movement afoot that echoes my sentiments exactly. As I pointed out, CNBC covered this yesterday morning. A quick look at under-banked data from the FDIC says it all. These places charge exorbitant fee's for ALL of their services and its the closest thing that a very large number of our population has to a bank. 28% interest on a short term loan, plus fee's so someone doesn't get their lights turned off has nothing to do with back child-support and everything to do with generational poverty, lack of opportunity, and a blind eye turned away from this problem so these opportunist enterprises can basically rape these people financially. My post was made 2 weeks into the aftermath of George Floyd, and as long as this stuff is allowed to thrive, the very fathers that you pointed out above will never get ahead. The circle closes and the snowball continues down the hill. Case closed.
Let's agree the initial response was more aggressive from me then warranted @vanzandt , and I take that part back. However what I wrote was an observation that has remained persistent as the reason people use check cashing services.
Hey, I have absolutely ZERO tolerance for dead-beat dads. ZERO. Any man that turns his back on his child is a pos imo. Of any color. As the one poster pointed out, maybe that's more reason to shut em down.
@vanzandt , check cashing places, jail, poverty are not a sign of businesses in our country taking advantage of people. It is the failure of the education system which is not being discussed when these stories come up. We are being smoke screened with words like racism, inequality, from having a system that is controlled by teachers unions and is behind most of the countries in the world in turning out valuable members of society. Until that is fixed all payday loan places can be shut down in a day and it will not put a dent into the demand for that service or quality of banking in the lower income neighborhoods.
