i did not read whole tread till end, but here what i do for all years of trading-on s "D" all i do is post total gains(if any) and that was it. i put my broker name(IB) and type "Various". never provide any details about how many trades, PL for each trade etc..always prepare taxes by myself. in 2001-02 i have more than thousand trades in each year. if i'm, not even graduaded for high school, not native american was able to do this without any complains or audits from IRS-why it so tough for you?)))))))))))))))))) i think,IRS have all info about your trades(your broker must provide it for them as far as i know). all they have to do is compare your total and total from your broker. if numbers did not match-they will request additional info.
