Again, whatever shit policies Trump has put in place, the detention centers go back to before Reagan. Why are they NOW concentration camps. I cannot find outspoken outcry against detention centers being concentration camps but AOC says it and you are all wokoe suddenly. Why does this bother Dems now? Obama tried to deal with this as well because the numbers of entrants was overwhelming the facilities and there was not much that could be done. This has bothered me for years and I watched both sides just pass the buck and blame and do nothing to stop it.
Yes that I agree with 100%. But if we reverse the child separation, the same detention centers exist and the same problems have existed for many years. If Trump never separated children then Dems would not react because they don't care deeply, only if it gets them elected. It is frustrating watching people like AOC get up and suddenly care with rhetoric but it was never an issue before for some reason.
Okay, here's the deal. I think Obama is a good guy. I don't think Trump is a good guy. People were detained under the Obama administration. But I don't think anyone thought it was a malevolent intention. So perhaps no one thought to equate the facilities with concentration camps, even though for all intents and purposes that is what they were and are. But when Trump started separating children from their parents, that presented a certain and undeniable malevolence. And so it became easier to call it for what it was because we all perhaps automatically associate concentration camps with malevolence.
It was clear to me when targeting immigrants became a political rather than an enforcement issue. When you're scapegoating the people you're putting in cages and not expediting their removal but rather lengthening their stay to score brownie points with your base and lobbyists it's no longer enforcement and they're no longer detainment centers. If we're violating people's right to a speedy hearing/trial, then "detainment center" is just polishing a turd
A speedy trial/hearing is the last thing they want. They're all guilty of illegal entry and therefore would be immediately deported. Better to release them after 20 days,( 20 whole days for us to have some shot at determining who might be a fucking terrorist or known gangbanger), and then set a court date 2-3 years out, for which 99% never show up. In an actual concentration camp we'd just being killing them all daily and that would be that, but don't let the facts get in the way of your hyperbole.
