As the permafrost thaws, more methane is released into the atmosphere. And methane is a more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2. And as the permafrost thaws, it calves into the ocean, which leaves less to refreeze. A real gut-buster.
as far as catastrophic change, the few scientists I respect who don't have a political axe to grind tell me, too much fresh ice melting into saltwater could change the gulf stream which would have a cooling affect on the eastern seaboard. No great loss. They don't grow much there anymore. at any rate, I am an average American. And an average American isn't going to actually do anything until it affects them personally. The alarmists have done your side much more harm than good. And you have plenty of idiots on your side, claiming co2 causes asthma and more tornadoes.
Too much freshwater introduced into saltwater does change the current. When that occurs, the cold moves farther south. This results in more than a "cooling effect".
the one thing both sides agree on is these new nuclear plants are a lot safer and they have addressed the waste problem. But speaking of problems, even Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and George Soros combined can't afford to build one. So you have to get the money from us poor little taxpayers. I'd be willing to fork over a few dollars for a safe reliable clean source of energy that someday may be more affordable than coal or nat gas. what do you think?
Review what's been happening with solar lately, particularly in Germany (google "Germany solar") and the UK.
ok, I'll take a look. Personally I am a big fan of algae. But that's gotta make the global warming crowd furious. It produces a lot of co2 but it's not a fossil fuel and it is 100% renewable.
It's a great idea. But we don't want to have to force any particular of energy source. We need the free market to find the best solution. A tax on carbon makes nuclear and the others more attractive. The tax can be returned to the consumer. In addition to a tax the govt may need to act as a lender for the nuclear power investment which as you say is the main stumbling block.
No algae does not produce CO2. It is CO2 neutral. The CO2 from it comes from the air. It does not make the GW crowd furious, quite the opposite.
