It was obvious earnings were going to be weaker, iphone sales are going to slow due to the iphone 5 and new competition. This was simple. Ipad sales were a bit stronger, but most of of the revenue apple grabs is from iphone sales. Remember companies do not stay on top forever and that includes apple.
Shouldn't a miss of this magnitude have been prereported? They must have known for weeks. Serious loss of credibility here.

28 dollar move in after hours.. was implying 33-34 seems like it was pretty accurate.. who knows maybe it will go lower tomorrow
Of course they knew for weeks, however you are speaking about apple, if this news came out weeks ago it would have pushed down the markets probably 2% the day of the announcement. There is so much going on for apple that this miss is pretty big. Of course analysts will say tomorrow that this is a "buying" opportunity. So this will all be forgotten by Thursday. Stock will probably be $585+ by the end of the week.
