  1. massively lowered the bar (.65) back to where the trough in aluminum/earnings was in 06.

AA just sold a 2bil china stake in chalco recently. That alone is about 25% of Q revenue! Potential for a pop in rev/earnings if they factor it in (assuming they don't "exclude" one time gains of course ... how likely is that?).

Risky here, considering there is a huge amount of resistance to overcome on broader mkt., spyders (oct.. etc), but --
I'd say from all the above, it looks like they could pull off stellar numbers above lowered expectations tonight. JMHO.

    Any other thoughts?

The company is expected to report third-quarter earnings shortly.

why the hell is it halted? are we now going to halt stocks when they tell us how much they made in a quarter? the world is really screwed up....

  4. Didn't surpass as much as I expected.
Missed by a penny. However, they also announced 25% buy back (7 bil  ) of ALL outstanding shares. My guess is it opens up and gives market another excuse to continue rally tomorrow.

  5. Scam.

  6. What will be a scam is if the insiders start to sell-out while company is buying back shares, (provide a premium bid for themselves)

  7. Only when the news is bad, give the specialist time to round up buyers, just can't have a down market.

So when AA opens it will go up not down on bad news, and everyone will say wow thats strength.

BAD NEWS IS NOW GOOD NEWS, PRESTO!

  8. Absolutely.

They miss earnings and increase the buy-back to artificially inflate EPS. Nobody follows their cash, only EPS. IBM has been using this scam for a decade, since Gerstner. Meanwhile they have only 25% of the cash needed to effect the BB. The AA board should be shot.
