eircom's new ADSL Internet access service. brings broadband Internet access to Irish homes and businesses, offering connection speeds up to 15 times faster than standard phone connections. http://www.eircom.ie/cgi-bin/bvsm/b...d+services&fromChannel=At+Home&cid=TheResAdsl
Yes but read my earlier posts.. in a few cities only and not even most of galway for example yet.. one of the main cities of ireland and the fastest growing city in europe.. or was... we are not far from galway and there is an exchange here that allows us to have isdn.. covers a wide area with many thousands of connections.. an engineer for eircom that I spoke to recently doubted if we would EVER get broadband, since they were only interested in profitable exchanges and were not going to connect smaller ones.. management decision, but not advertised of course. Its annoying. Neil
Surely, this is the ideal situation for the satellite based broad-band connections that I understand will soon be available. There must be a massive market for this type of connection in Ireland and any other countryside areas of the UK that will never have cable-modem or ADSL access. If satellite TV is so widely available in most countries, then why not Internet connections? I'm lucky to live in Cambridge, where broadband access is easily available. Currently we can get a very reliable 1 Mbit (max) connection speed via NTL cable. The NTL Internet access speed has gone up and the price down over the past year, but we still need more competition from a satellite based system. Chris
Well, it looks as though they are certainly thinking about it! http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...ite+internet+access+europe&btnG=Google+Search
Oh..... that didn't work too well! Try a Google search for satellite internet access europe http://www.esa.int/export/esaCP/ESASVNTHN6D_Ireland_0.html
yes thanks for that link too chris.. will delve into that.. have been looking at the astra broadband internet service and also looked into it before with another providor.. sounds ideal except for a couple of issues so far encountered.. first am not sure that these connections allow access to the internet in general.. or just to selected content from isp's linked to the satellite service... not entirely clear so far in the blurb I have read... if it allows access to all sites then no problem.. secondly.. and also not too sure about this either, but people have mentioned elsewhere that sat feeds have an inbuilt delay, for obvious reasons of distances, of several seconds.. now this is not a problem for data downloads.. streaming video etc.. but is it a problem for live market data? dunno myself cos it is so hard to know how delayed my isdn feed is anyway.. seems to be ok most of the time in fact.. and def some of the times it is delayed a bit can be attributed to the interent provider here.. certainly worth looking into further anyway, so thanks again for the link.. I would like to trade money from friends and family in a pooled account. All of them will be non UK residents, what would be the best way to do this? I read it's so easy to start a company here, what are the pros and cons of trading family money in a partnership? ? Do I need to be approved by the FSA? Do I need any license in the UK like a certificate from the Securities Institute. Hope someone can answer. Thanx.
After trading over in London for 6 1/2 years, I can tell you that there is ton of interest in trading US products and the US traders are very interested in hearing what the UK traders have to say. There is tremendous amount of interest in locating in Dublin and Gibraltar because of Tax advantages. The immigration gate going in to Gibraltar looks like the Old LIFFE turnstiles in the morning. There is large group of traders the live in Costa Del Sol and commute to Gibraltar every day for work. Awesome lifestyle with great advantages. I would include Gibraltar in a thread for UK and Irish traders. Risk Less
Yes, I've often thought what a wonderful place Gibralter would be to live and trade from. Only an hour or so flight time from Luton airport and all that sun to ease the English winter blues! Another possibility was maybe Freeport in the Bahama's. Sounds like a great place if you don't mind the tourists! Still, the choice would have to depend on any preference for being close to the "Old Europe" inhabitants or those "New World" types! Chris
